    SUMMARY:

    The position of Cook requires a dedicated individual who will take direction from the Food and Beverage Management Team in carrying out a great guest experience in relation to all food and beverage activities. Cooks are responsible for fulfilling all foods orders for Newport Aquarium’s daytime guests in Sharky’s Café, and after hours catering/events services. Cooks will maintain a clean and orderly kitchen, dining area, and event space. The position will play a key role in contributing to our guest satisfaction while maintaining the utmost level of hygienic standards.

    Required Skills

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform, adhere to, and implement all Herschend Family Entertainment Core Values and Newport Aquarium Guest Experience Standards, Policies and Procedures, and Safety Protocols to ensure safe and efficient food and beverage operation.
    • Maintain a positive attitude and appearance at all times.
    • Approach guests in a friendly manner to offer assistance and provide information regarding Newport Aquarium.
    • Arrive on time and ready to work all scheduled shifts.
    • Keep safety as a number one priority at all times while working at Newport Aquarium.
    • Understand policies and procedures relating to the overall functions of the Food and Beverage department.
    • Work with other team members/departments of Newport Aquarium to ensure effective communication is implemented at all times
    • Maintain knowledge of activities, aquatic life, and Newport Aquarium special events/promotions in order to properly notify and inform guests.
    • Must be self-motivated to work independently, as well as, disciplined and reliable.
    • Maintain appropriate guest and team member relations at all times, ensuring guest and team satisfaction.
    • Demonstrates strong guest service and interpersonal skills.
    • Set up stations and collect all necessary supplies to prepare menu for guest service operations.
    • On a daily basis ensure that:
      • All team member are fully knowledgeable on location and the functions of position; if not, inform the Food and Beverage Manager immediately.
      • Prepare a variety of foods including meat, seafood, poultry, vegetable and cold food items, and hygienic kitchen and café upkeep.
      • Participate in the basic functions of the Food and Beverage department including, guest transactions, preparing food, and cleaning the lobby/café.
      • Cover, date and correctly store all food prep items. Taking accurate inventory and ensuring food waste is properly documented. Notify Food and Beverage Management Team in advance on inventory shortages.
      • Use food preparation tools and kitchen equipment in accordance with manufactures instructions.
      • Maintain an organized and sanitized work area at all times.
      • Constantly use safe and hygienic food handling practice.
      • Opening and closing procedures are appropriately implemented for all kitchen stations.
      • Perform other related duties or projects as assigned by the Food and Beverage Management Team.

    Required Experience

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • High school diploma or equivalent and previous Food and Beverage experience preferred.
    • Must be available to work weekend, holidays and evenings.
    • Must know and follow sanitary food handling procedures.
    • Friendly, outgoing and proactive approach to all aspects of position.
    • Ability to learn all faucets of the Food and Beverage operations.
    • Ability to work effectively with all members of the team, and maintain a proper attitude at all times.
    • Must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening and background check.
    • Ability to remain on feet for long periods, climb stairs, bend and stoop.
    • Physical strength, including the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.NOTE: Position will involve exposure to nut allergens, inclement weather, dust, potentially dangerous and unpredictable animal species, and potential dangerous machinery, restraint devices and toxic chemicals and/or drugs. Occasional use of protective clothing or equipment is required e.g. goggles, mask, gloves, and gowns.
