  • Responsibilities

     A Dental Sterilization Assistant assures that the equipment and instruments in the central sterilization area are maintained, cleaned and monitored according to OSHA standards. In addition, this person is responsible for the daily, weekly, and/or monthly tasks relating to OSHA compliance. This person must be very well organized and understand the importance of completing tasks/having instruments turned around timely to ensure that patient care can be delivered timely.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Understand and demonstrate proper sterilization, biohazard and infection control procedures in compliance with protocol.
    • Sterilization Maintenance
    • Sterilizes all instruments and hand pieces
    • Ensures the sterilization area is neat and presentable
    • Performs weekly maintenance, tests, and cleaning duties
    • Accountable for all hand pieces at the end of every 4-hour shift (i.e. at lunch, dinner, and at the end of the night shift)
    • Hygiene Assistance
    • Prepares daily hygiene master schedule the sterilization area
    • Assists with periodontal charting on all new patients and generalized periodontal patients whenever possible
    • Assists in the tear down and set-up of hygiene operatories
    • Develops X-Rays when requested by Hygienist
    • Takes X-Rays when requested by Hygienist
    • Duplicates X-Rays on a daily basis
    • Pediatric prophylaxis and adult polishing as needed
    • Assisting Doctors with emergency patients as called upon
    • Demonstrate complete knowledge of dental terminology.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of dental instruments and proper tray setups.
    • Properly take, develop and mount all radiographs.
    • Efficiently direct patient flow through teamwork and communication.
    • Responsible for stocking treatment areas/carts and dental related facility inventory.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of dental treatment equipment maintenance procedures.
    • Patient/staff rapport -- make positive contribution to office/organization.
    • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Manager

    Required Skills

    • One year certified dental assistant program; or
    • Six months on-the-job experience; or
    • High school diploma and demonstrated ability to assume dental assistant responsibilities.
    • Current dental assistant license is required in certain states.
    • Ability to perform basic computer functions.
    • Comply with protocols and standards.
    • Exercise knowledge of dental instruments and terminology.
    • Support corporate vision and strategy.
    • Demonstrate a working knowledge of dental records and documentation.

    Required Experience

  • Qualifications
    • One year certified dental assistant program; or
    • Six months on-the-job experience; or
    • High school diploma and demonstrated ability to assume dental assistant responsibilities.
    • Current dental assistant license is required in certain states.
    • Ability to perform basic computer functions.
    • Comply with protocols and standards.
    • Exercise knowledge of dental instruments and terminology.
