    SUMMARY:

    The position requires a dedicated individual who will take direction from the Guest Services Team Leads, Supervisors, and Manager; responsible for implementing daily requirements relating to Metal Detection and bag check procedure at the guest/employee entrance.  Other responsibilities include all aspects of Guest Relations, Ticket Taking, General Cleaning, Stroller/Wheelchair Check/Rental, Guest Entry, and Crowd Control.

         

    Required Skills

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Maintain a positive attitude and appearance.
    • Facilitate the Entry Screening procedures to ensure that all individuals entering the property are appropriately checked for unauthorized items through metal detection practices/procedures in addition to bag screenings.
    • Approach guests in a friendly manner to offer assistance or provide information regarding the Aquarium, ticket pricing, policies, operating hours, etc.
    • Consistently display and perform at the highest levels of customer service.
    • Arrive on time and ready to work all scheduled shifts.
    • Maintain all required forms and paperwork to ensure that necessary guest activities are logged properly.
    • Keep safety as the number one priority at all times while working in the Aquarium.
    • Make suggestions and recommendations to the Guest Services Leadership on noticeable procedures that will enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the entire guest services operation.
    • Consistently work with the other members of the Newport Aquarium staff to ensure that effective communications are implemented.
    • Understand the policies and procedures relating to entry screening, admissions/re-admissions, discounts, memberships, etc.
    • Maintain knowledge of activities, aquatic life and Newport Aquarium special events in order to properly answer guest questions.
    • Make certain that proper operating procedures are being adhered to at all times according to pre-determined guidelines.
    • On a daily basis at your assigned location, make certain that:
      • You are fully knowledgeable on your location and the functions of your position; if not, inform your manager immediately.
      • All required daily paperwork is properly completed.
      • Entrance and exit procedures are being carried out as safely and as efficiently as possible.
      • Your location area is continuously being kept clean.
      • Courteousness, friendliness and helpfulness are being displayed at all times.
      • Opening and closing procedures are appropriately implemented.
      • Perform other related duties or projects as assigned by the Guest Services Leadership.

    Required Experience

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Ability to learn and perform all facets of the Guest Services operation

    • Ability to work effectively with people and display proper attitude at all time

    • Computer experience a plus

    • Must have strong public speaking skills; the ability to read, write and speak the English language (knowledge of other languages is a plus)

    • Must be able to think clearly, react quickly, and calmly to changes and/or emergency situations

    • Must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

    • Willingness to take direction and coaching from experienced team members in order to improve your skills and enhance the guest experience

    • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a constantly changing environment as well as individually, with a minimum of supervision

    • Ability to work a flexible schedule which will include evenings, weekends and holidays

    • Ability to perform in a fast-paced job and remain courteous, friendly and helpful to guests and cast at all times

    • Knowledge of marine life a plus

      REQUIREMENTS:

    • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening and background check

    • Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time, climb stairs, bend and stoop and periods of outside environmental exposure

    SHIFT: The aquarium is open 365 a year.  Applicant needs the flexibility to work weekends, evenings and Holidays. Daily operations span from 8:00am to 8:00pm depending on the time of year.

     

    PAYRATE: $10 - $13

     

    NOTE:  Position will involve exposure to inclement weather, dust, potentially dangerous and unpredictable animal species, and potential dangerous machinery, restraint devices and toxic chemicals and/or drugs.  Occasional use of protective clothing or equipment is required e.g. goggles, mask, gloves, and gowns.
