Summary: Under basic supervision, operates technical surveying instruments and equipment to gather fieldwork data to measure the City for Public Works construction projects, and for use in defining plats. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Performs technical civil engineering survey work, using special survey instruments and equipment. Cleans and adjusts precision surveying equipment to assure accuracy of measurements. Collects and verifies field survey data, GPS coordinates, and control points; maintains accurate notes, records, and logs; edits computerized data, performs survey data calculations, and interprets data. Supports the divisional operations with regular and timely attendance. Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND one year of computer experience. Knowledge of: Land and construction survey methods and procedures. Use, operation, calibration, and maintenance of a variety of specialized equipment. Basic record keeping and records management practices. Skill in: Reading and interpreting maps, diagrams, and specifications. Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized engineering software. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. License and certification requirements: A valid Texas State Driver's License is required. Physical demands and working environment: Work is performed in a standard office environment, and outdoors in the City performing field work. City of Odessa
