Patrol Officers provide security for the Colonial Williamsburg
Foundation. They open, close and patrol the Dewitt Wallace Museum, Abby
Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum (the Art Museums) and all foundation
properties to protect exhibits, help visitors, and respond to emergency
situations and calls for service in a timely and efficient manner and
document information as necessary. Patrol Officers report to the
Sergeant in charge of the shift. JOB DETAILS: - Perform routine patrol
activities - Perform routine patrol activities by patrolling all
foundation properties and other indoor and outdoor foundation areas
including in adverse or poor weather conditions by foot, vehicle or
bike. - Monitor and respond to conditions or circumstances that might
injure people or damage collection objects or the foundation properties
in patrol areas. - Monitor safety conditions and the security of the
collections, guest, volunteers, and employees in assigned areas. -
Enforce rules on eating, drinking, smoking, and general conduct firmly,
but courteously when working in the museums or other areas where it is
prohibited. - When working in the museums, know the status of
exhibitions and the location of objects in the building. - Control
access to restricted areas when necessary - Inspect the Art Museums
before opening and after closing using a checklist - Conduct an opening
inspection - Record and report unusual building conditions or any
missing or damaged display objects - Open the Public Hospital's handicap
entrance - Conduct a closing inspection to ensure - All visitors are out
of the building - Facilities and displays are secure - Exterior,
storage, workroom, and office doors are secure - Send completed
checklists and any notes about findings to the Manager Museum Security -
Relieve the communications operator for breaks and lunch; be familiar
with all alarm monitoring and communications equipment and required logs
and records. - Detect and investigate crimes/unusual activities -
Conduct surveillance of individuals, vehicles, or locations - Interview
victims, suspects, and witnesses - Collect and identify evidence and
property - Seize contraband and/or evidence - Prepare for and present
information for management/legal testimony - Prepare written reports -
Take photographs - Give legal depositions/testimony - Appear in court as
a designated investigating officer - Manage pedestrian/motor vehicle

assigned. - Job Requirements: - Must have excellent public contact
skills, including the ability to deal with people under stressful
circumstances - Must have excellent oral communications skills and
reading and writing skills sufficient to complete reports - Must be able
to exercise judgment under stressgenerally gained through completion of
a high school education/GED plus one year public contact experience. -
Must not have a history of criminal convictions, except minor traffic
violations; must be able to work holidays, evenings, and weekends - Must
qualify annually in CPR, first aid and use of an AED. Preferred
Qualifications: - Two years public contact experience; two years
college, one year experience with Colonial Williamsburg - Certification
for CPR, first aid, and use of an AED.
