Job Summary:
The Group Fitness Instructor instructs members & guests through a variety of group exercise/fitness formats. The Group Fitness Instructor (GFI) instructs members & guests through useful and safe exercises, assists them in achieving exercise goals and creates a fun group exercise environment for all participants. The GFI guides members & guests through group exercise formats in a group setting.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
TECHNICAL DUTIES
Inform members & guests of proper safety techniques
Welcome all members & guests at the beginning of each class
Inform participants of the ability level of the class format being taught
Supervise members & guests through the duration of the class
Encourage members & guests to achieve fitness goals by consistent participation
Be able to describe and inform members & guests of other class formats offered at Dynamic Fitness
Follow all Dynamic Fitness policies and procedures
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Teach scheduled group fitness classes according to outlined Group Fitness Schedule
Initiates and concludes scheduled class on time
Leaves Group Fitness room in order (clean and organized)
Reports any equipment concerns to Group Fitness Supervisor, and reports concerns to the Operations Manager
Attends and is present for instructor trainings and required supervisor meetings
PROMOTE/SUPPORT
Attends all Group Fitness events as needed to promote the club and class formats, as well as to show support towards the Company
Company Relations:
The position of a Group Fitness Instructor does not directly manage other employees. The GFI will have interaction with their class participants to ensure that exercises and formats are performed in a safe manner. The Group Fitness Instructor will also engage with club staff and management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, skills & abilities:
Ability to deal with a diverse group of people
Ability to speak appropriately with all age groups
Great communication skills
Knowledge of appropriate exercise technique, principles, and format
Ability to effectively teach all skills being taught to participants
Ability to follow directions/instructions
Maintains a professional demeanor in relation to members and co-workers
Be “on-time” and possess a “can-do” attitude.
Dress professionally and uphold an appropriate attitude and behavior
Possess an outgoing, enthusiastic, and must be able to be captivating in front of class participants
Minimum certifications/educational level:
• Possess a current Group Exercise certification or specialized fitness format certification
• Training (additionally) in specialty formats (where as required)
Minimum experience:
• Prior six months experience in facilitating/teaching group exercise classes
Physical Requirements:
Lifting of light weights, jumping, squatting, walking, hopping, kicking, dancing, cycling
