    We are now hiring Req #178 Bird Intern Hourly Variable Hour (Non Benefit Elig) Tuesday, July 17, 2018 -SUMMARY: This intern will oversee our interactive aviary, which will include the daily care of the collection, as well as assisting our patrons inside the exhibit. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Daily feeding, cleaning, and maintenance of the aviary Monitoring the collection and notifying supervisors of any health, nutrition or other concerns Interact with patrons by educating them about the aviary and the birds inside, as well as assist and instruct with public feeding Maintain the safety of birds and guests QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrate knowledge of: Avian husbandry, including the daily care and maintenance of a large aviary Must possess ability to: Communicate clearly & concisely in written form as well as orally Work well with the public in an interactive environment Ability to work Tuesday through Friday Work well with others in a team environment Clean and maintain assigned exhibit, recognize and report daily observations EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: One year of aviculture experience is preferred. Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid class C drivers license required PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must possess ability to: Lift a minimum of 50 pounds as well as perform other physical demands such as bending, stretching, climbing, twisting, pushing, pulling, etc. Work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.) WORK ENVIRONMENT: Team-oriented environment Exposure to a variety of domestic, wild/and or endangered animals, animal odors and animal bodily fluids Irregular hours including weekends and/or some holidays Outdoors in heat, cold and inclement weather Public interactive exhibit
