    Internship: Great Lakes Action Day (GLAD) Internship: Great Lakes Action Day (GLAD) Summary Title: Internship: Great Lakes Action Day (GLAD) ID: 1253 Department: Internship Description Objective The GLAD Intern will assist with implementation, facilitation, and program development of conservation and stewardship activities outside of Shedd, namely the Great Lakes Action Day (GLAD) program. Summary As part of the Conservation Partnerships and Programs (CPP) Department, Shedds GLAD program aims to connect the public with stewardship opportunities in natural areas throughout the Chicagoland area. Conservation efforts focus on stewardship of the lake, river, and amphibian habitats, and activities include primarily litter clean-ups and habitat restoration (e.g., invasive plant removal, native seed collecting, native plantings, etc.). Responsibilities & Duties Demonstrate commitment to Shedds vision, mission and values Assist with planning and execution of GLADs (1-3 per week on average) Sending pre-activity communications Logistics panning for events Helping to manage groups of volunteers in the field Learning and implementing best practices in ecological restoration Identification of native and invasive plant species Assist with equipment preparation and storage Assist CPP Manager and GLAD facilitators as needed Projects May Include Independent facilitation of GLADs. Creation of supplemental programming materials to support GLAD audiences. Landscape analysis of corporate volunteer programs. Projects may be adjusted or created to meet interns desired area of focus Qualifications A love of the outdoors and willingness to work outside in a variety of weather conditions Comfortable interacting with and presenting in front of diverse audiences Ability to multitask Enthusiasm and a great work ethic Enrolled in a degree program in education, science, museum studies, conservation or related field Eager to work at Shedd Aquarium in a team environment Good public speaking, organizational and written communication skills Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Additional Qualifications (preferred, but not required) Experience in environmental conservation programming or stewardship work. CPR/First Aid certified, Wilderness First Aid Forest Preserve of Cook County Workday Leader Certified Current Illinois Pesticide Applicator or Operator license Time Commitment Flexible, 10-24 hours per week. Most events occur during 8am 4pm Tuesday-Saturday.
