Chicagos Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) exposes guests of all ages to awe-inspiring exhibitions that spark curiosity and bring science to life. MSIs mission to inspire the inventive genius in everyone is realized through its world-class exhibitions and engaging guest experiences. The Internship: The Research and Evaluation Intern will help support a federally-funded study of the Science Minors Club programs summer activities. The intern will accompany Museum staff as they libraries, parks and other locations across the city of Chicago to bring science activities to the public. While at the locations, the intern will collect data by observing interactions between staff and the public and taking detailed notes. They also will help with passing out surveys to the public and the processing and basic analysis of the data. The Internship will last approximately eight, 35-hour weeks from the middle of June to the middle of August. The Intern will work on a collaborative team with other evaluator/researchers, volunteers, interns and consultants. The intern will occasionally assist other team members as a thought partner, preparing materials for data collection, recruitment of guests and other study participants, entering and processing data and basic analysis and interpretation of results. Responsibilities: * Visit Science Minors Club events and collect observation and survey data * Conduct literature reviews of academic and non-academic sources. * Process quantitative data (data entry, cleaning, formatting, etc.) * Preparation of simple graphs and charts. * Act as a thought partner in team discussions around project design and data analysis. * Support other team members on other projects as assigned. * Maintain the highest ethical standards and support equity in all projects. * Contribute to a collaborative and congenial team environment. Qualifications/Requirements: * High school diploma or equivalent * Higher education coursework in the social sciences (education, psychology, anthropology, etc.) * Work or volunteer experience in a museum or social science research setting/laboratory * Ability to communicate in Spanish * Experience working with groups that are diverse in background and thought. * Be able to travel to locations around Chicago and work an occasional weekend * Ability to stand and work outside in a wide range of summer weather conditions The Museum of Science and Industry is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, which includes providing equal opportunity without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
