    SALARY: $14.00/hr  SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 2:30pm START DATE: 05/22/2023

    OVERVIEW:

    Under the daily guidance of a Park Specialist, the Summer Seasonal Park Maintenance position is responsible for assisting in the routine work involved in maintaining our parks. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Under the general direct supervision of a full time employee and/or Park Maintenance IV, perform basic horticulture maintenance activities (i.e., annual flower/bulb plantings and weeding, perennial bed maintenance and watering).
    2. Under the general direct supervision of a full time employee and/or Park Maintenance IV, perform forestry/silvaculture maintenance (i.e., controlled prairie and woodland burns, and native tree pruning).
    3. Under the general direct supervision of a full time employee and/or Park Maintenance IV, perform maintenance of ball fields and tennis courts.
    4. Under the general direct supervision of a full time employee and/or Park Maintenance IV, perform trail maintenance (i.e., clean up and debris removal, mulching).
    5. Under the general direct supervision of a full time employee and/or Park Maintenance IV, perform litter pickup, garbage pickup, and recycling activities.
    6. Under the general direct supervision of a full time employee and/or Park Maintenance IV, perform cleaning and maintenance of park shelters, restrooms, and assigned buildings.
    7. Under the general direct supervision of a full time employee and/or Park Maintenance IV, trim and mow assigned parks.
    8. Demonstrate and support Park District customer service standards.
    9. Follow district and department safety, personnel, and administrative policies, procedures and ordinances.
    10. Perform miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    • Some experience in the safe use and operations of basic park maintenance/landscape maintenance tools (i.e., back-pack blowers, weed trimmers, hand mowers) preferred.
    • Skill at cleaning and custodial methods preferred.
    • Ability to complete daily time sheets.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
    • Some experience in the park maintenance/landscape maintenance field preferred.
    • Valid ‘D' license and good driving required.

    SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

    • Must be at least 18 years old.
    • Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
    • Ability to move from site to site.
    • Regularly lift, carry and/or move object(s) weighing ≤ 50 lbs. Lifting assistance is required when lifting ≥ 50 lbs. 
    • Exposure to pesticides, exhaust fumes, chemicals, dust, dirt, insect bites and loud noises.
    • Weekend schedule required.
    • Occasional manipulation of assigned office equipment.
    • Prolonged lifting, stooping, bending, twisting, and climbing for extended periods of time.
    • Sustained posture in a standing position for prolonged periods of time.
    • Subject to confined space entry.
    • Subject to respirator use. Employee will be required to pass a Quantitative Fit test.
    • Manual dexterity and strength to operate power-operated equipment/machines.
