The GreenSchool Science Ed Intern will gain valuable experience at a world-renowned science and cultural institution-a 250-acre living museum with indoor and outdoor learning facilities, as well as an international center for plant science research. The Childrens Education Department at The New York Botanical Garden is seeking a Science Education Intern for the GreenSchool during the 2018-2019 school years. GreenSchool offers plant science workshops and tours incorporating inquiry and observation-and-exploration based field investigations throughout the Garden with the goal of student experiential learning and appreciation of the natural world. The Intern will lead school group programs as well as support the daily operations of the institutional space and staff needs as well as research, develop and evaluate curricula. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: * Facilitate inquiry-based plant science workshops and tours for Kindergarten through 8th grade school groups (all ability levels, including children with learning differences) * Use pedagogically-appropriate practices which help build student understandings constructively through investigation of unique resources, hands-on activities, and peer collaboration in both informal Garden settings and formal classroom settings * Facilitate the set-up of classrooms and supplies each morning, followed by the clean-up, inventory and preparation of class materials each afternoon * Assist in the research, development and assessment of existing and new GreenSchool curricula, as needed and as related to changing exhibitions REQUIREMENTS: * Potential candidates must have an undergraduate degree with a background and/or familiarity with current museum education practices.
