    TITLE: Animal Caretaker II

    SUPERVISOR TITLE: Manager of Living Collections

    STATUS: Part Time, Non-Exempt

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    We are looking for a talented and highly motivated individual to join our Living Collections team. The Animal Caretaker II assists in the general husbandry of all the species in the Living Collections throughout the Chicago Academy of Sciences/Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. This includes permanent and temporary exhibit species, program species, feeder species and species that are part of the Academy's conservation projects.

    PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Care and maintenance of all Living Collections, to include: cleaning, feeding, and enrichment.
    • Interact and work with existing volunteers and learn to train new volunteers to work with the Living Collections.
    • Maintain supplies required for animal care.
    • Interact with Museum visitors in a professional and courteous manner.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Previous hands-on experience working with a variety of species is highly desired.
    • Ability to work with little supervision.
    • Physically capable of lifting up to 40lbs and climbing ladders up to 3ft in height.
    • Able to actively stand for reasonably long periods.
    • Willingness to work with animal waste.
    • Willingness to work with insects, arachnids and other arthropods.
    • Willingness to feed live food when necessary.
    • Experience with aquarium/aquatic tank care highly desirable

    EDUCATION: Associate degree or equivalent

    SALARY RANGE: Based on experience and qualifications.
