    Program Associate, Higher and Continuing Education Art transforms lives. It provokes us to think, to express, to explore our own creativity, to envision new possibilities. SFMOMA expanded the museum to provide a better experience for our visitors and a better home for our expanding collections, including the SFMOMA collection and the Fisher Collection, one of the finest collections of contemporary art in the world. The new SFMOMA, designed in collaboration with the architecture firm Snøhetta, opened May 14th 2016. With this project, we are transforming not just the museum's physical presence, but also our contributions to the community, enhancing SFMOMA's role as a place for learning, inspiration, and interaction for visitors from the Bay Area and beyond. We are making SFMOMA a magnet for contemporary art and for the audiences who will engage with it. Under the supervision of the Associate Curator of Public Dialogue, the Program Associate, Higher and Continuing Education develops, plans, coordinates and implements programs and informal educational programs for adults as well as programming catering to college and university audiences, often in partnership with higher educational institutions. The Program Associate, Higher and Continuing Education builds relationships with the higher education community to further SFMOMA's mission, and works closely with multiple stakeholders, from external faculty, scholars and artists to a range of museum departments, including Curatorial, Collections, Content Strategy and Digital Engagement and Marketing. This position creates in-depth learning and research opportunities, develops online strategy for these opportunities, participates in evaluation of programs and is the primary contact point for these initiatives. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: HIGHER EDUCATION Act as primary liaison between SFMOMA and higher educational institutions, developing and executing a range of programming, at the museum and at the Collections Center Responsible for internal coordination and external communication with colleges, universities, professors and higher education groups, fostering strong relationships with faculty and administrators Collaborate with the Associate Curator of Public Dialogue and the Curator of Education and Public Practice concerning the aims, content and scheduling of higher education programming, to create innovative opportunities for collaboration with other internal and external stakeholders. Provide detailed project management for ensuring smooth planning and implementation of programming, including developing workflows and coordinating project meetings, budgets, tasks and timelines with all relevant stakeholders. Manage the booking and scheduling process in coordination with support staff, CIM, Operations, and Web, and coordinate requests for a range of programs for faculty-led student groups, including self-guided tours, guided tours, object study visits at the museum and at the Collections Center Work closely with Curatorial and Collections staff on program development and for access to art works and collections spaces within the museum and the Collections Center Schedule guides for guided tours, and liaise with all relevant museum stakeholders (e.g. Visitor Experience, Group Sales and School Visits) Plan and develop higher education web page content and work closely with CSDE to maintain up-to-date website information related to higher education programs and events. Plan and develop digital marketing content including marketing emails and work closely with Marketing to promote higher education related programs and events in digital and formats. Maintain higher education mailing list and communicate with faculty and administrators about upcoming exhibitions, programs, and key events. Maintain accurate records and statistics for higher education programs and events and coordinate and participate in their evaluation Request support staffing and volunteers and direct in day-of activities. Prepare and process contracts, logistical and financial paperwork related to these programs Coordinate documentation of programs, including photo and video Attend all meetings relevant to higher education programs CONTINUING EDUCATION Be responsible for the planning, production and smooth implementation of Public Dialogue continuing education activities and related programs. This process involves close liaison with many internal and external stakeholders including artists, speakers, Development, Operations, Marketing and Communications, Graphic Design, Exhibitions, Visitor Experience, Security, program participants, outside contractors and vendors. Collaborate with the Associate Curator of Public Dialogue and the Curator of Education and Public Practice concerning the aims, content and scheduling of programming, and develop program ideas in collaboration with other Curatorial colleagues. Provide detailed project management for ensuring smooth planning and implementation of programs, including developing workflows and coordinating project meetings, tracking budgets, tasks and maintaining timelines with all relevant stakeholders Undertake research on and with artists, speakers and potential collaborators with guidance from Associate Curator of Public Dialogue, and coordinate research workshops with project stakeholders as needed Organize travel and hotel accommodations for artists and program participants Prepare and process contracts, logistical and financial paperwork related to programs Request support staffing and volunteers and direct in day-of activities. Organize necessary arrangements the day of events including registration, furniture requirements, technical arrangements and documentation Maintain accurate record of events, including coordinating photo and video documentation, keeping attendance and financial statistics Maintain image and physical archive related to programs Plan and develop continuing education website content, and support CSDE on maintenance of web pages related to continuing education programs and events. Plan and develop digital marketing content including marketing emails and social media. Work closely with Marketing to promote continuing education related programs and events. Develop and support and digital content production and maintain content channels for community engagement related to Public Dialogue programs, including email marketing, social media, and website content in collaboration with external collaborators, Curators, Program Associates, Education support staff, as well as the Marketing and CSDE departments as necessary. Be the primary contact person for external and internal inquiries regarding continuing education programs by phone and email and provide updated information as necessary. Attend all meetings relevant to the continuing education programs for the public Contribute to the evaluation and assessment of programs and events. Perform other duties as required MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Training: Undergraduate degree in the arts, design or humanities, art education, or liberal arts with significant work in the arts. Demonstrable interest in modern and contemporary art, arts education and interdisciplinary approaches required. Graduate degree preferred. Work Experience: A minimum of two years' experience in an art museum, educational or non-profit organization, including experience in public event programming and arts education, or in comparable fields. Some experience of complex organizational structures in higher education and/or adult informal education contexts preferred. Skills and Abilities: Superlative interpersonal skills and the ability to work enthusiastically and effectively with Museum staff, external faculty, administrators, artists, visitors, program participants and external vendors. Outstanding verbal communication skills, with an aptitude for public speaking preferred. Excellent written communication skills, including editing and proofreading. Ability to organize, implement and administer complex programs with many collaborators. Knowledge and understanding of the Bay Area's artistic and wider creative communities and of modern and contemporary art. Knowledge and understanding of museum educational programming and of university programs, priorities and structures. Proven time management skills with the ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, follow-up on assignments, and work effectively on several projects concurrently with a minimum of direction or supervision. Extremely detail-oriented work habits. Skill in researching, compiling, summarizing and sharing various informational materials. Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Work Suite, project management software, database and email applications. Patience and flexibility while working in a dynamic public environment. Availability to work evenings and some weekends. Working Conditions: Schedule: 9am-5pm Monday- Friday. Occasional weekends and frequent evenings (often Thursdays).
