No: 191664 Agency: Department of Corrections Posting Type: External Applications accepted through: Jan 7, 2019 Job Description: Job Description: Responsible for providing recidivism/risk-reducing programs/classes at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility (ECF). The skills-building classes instructed will include, but not be limited to the following: job readiness, parenting, and cognitive behavioral skills-building, substance abuse, introduction to work release readiness, and others as directed by supervisor. Works closely with Reentry and Unit Team staff to assist the Classification Administrator in ensuring that program slots are maximized, and that offenders of all risk levels have access to risk reduction and recidivism-reducing classes, services, and interventions, using good time as an incentive for successful completions. Serves as lead and/or co-facilitator in delivering skills-building classes and collaborates with others to broker co-facilitators and facilitators, including Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) staff, contract staff, volunteers, and community partners. Establishes skills-building classes for offenders, matching appropriate dose levels with offender risk needs, and tailoring classes to special needs populations. These classes include Thinking for a Change (T4C), Offender Workforce Development Specialist (OWDS), parenting, work release readiness, and various other skills-building classes. Assists the Reentry Team in the release planning process including the processing of release plans and parole preparation documentation; processing of release paperwork with offenders; accumulation and accuracy of release data; processing of inmate identification; and other release planning activities. Schedules, monitors, and is responsible for all administrative aspects of the classes, including working with Unit Team for the referral process; reviewing lists of offenders to identify potential participants; addressing readiness and responsivity; screening referrals; making placements and ensuring available resources are fully utilized; scheduling classes and workshops within the callout process; monitoring classes for quality/fidelity; tracking the number who start and finish; monitoring progress to reduce failures; ensuring Facility Parole Eligibility Requirement (FPER) codes are accurately completed; ensuring Unit Team, Parole, and mentors have feedback about class progress as appropriate, including any necessary Total Offender Activity Document System (TOADS) entries, and any other aspect of the administration of the classes. Works closely with facility leadership to identify gaps in available classes and services for all risk levels, including Senate Bill 14 eligible, to ensure offenders have access to classes and activities that decrease the risk of recidivism, using good time as an incentive. Minimum Requirements: Six months of experience in planning, implementing, and monitoring activities relevant to the agencys programs. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Additional Selection Criteria: A Bachelors Degree with major coursework in criminal justice, the social sciences, the behavioral sciences, or business management or related field and one (1) year of experience working, planning, implementing, and monitoring activities relevant to offenders in corrections. Agency approved substitution for Bachelors Degree: 60 semester hours of college credit with twelve (12) hours in corrections or related field, and three (3) years of experience working with offenders in corrections. Self-directed; demonstrates professional alignment with evidence-based practices, including cognitive-based skills-building programs, classes, and interventions; strong facilitation skills, including ability to be purposeful, engaging, and respectful with offenders, and flow with group dynamics during skills-building classes; experience in skills-building in a group or individual setting; job knowledge in corrections, and workforce development; organizational skills; ability to work effectively with a team; strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills; and ability to boundary span between areas of operation. Necessary Special Qualifications, Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations: Must be or become certified as an Offender Workforce Development Specialist and trained in Thinking for a Change, Parenting Inside Out or Inside Out Dad, and other class curricula/model as directed by supervisor. Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License.
