Summary
The Area Group Exercise Manager is responsible for creating a dynamic group exercise program with a variety of formats to engage and challenge our members. This position will be responsible for hiring and training instructors, setting the group exercise schedules, reviewing the performance of individual classes and instructors and partnering with gym-level management to maximize participation in the group exercise programs. The Group Fitness Director needs to stay current on industry trends and adjust formats and schedules to maintain a competitive program.
Learning & Development
Consistently evaluate Group Exercise Instructors and provide timely, relevant performance feedback. Ensure that the Group Exercise team has current and up-to-date certifications. Provide staff with continued support and manage performance.
Financial Performance
Create action plans and manage the Group Exercise team to exceed goals that are aligned with the overall organizational strategy and goals. Establish, monitor, and analyze the Group Exercise budget. Develop and implement expectations for the team that align with company objectives.
Team Management
Supervise and coordinate regular training sessions of all staff ensuring club employees are trained on company policies, including facility rules and operating procedures, loss prevention, employment, and Human Resources policies. Manage team-member relations by creating a team culture. Partner with Human Resources to resolve conflicts amongst team-members within the club. Execute team member accountability and teamwork across departmental functions to improve the member and team-member experience. Provide progressive coaching and guidance promoting long-term career growth opportunities to all direct reports. Administer corrective action as needed of all Group Fitness employees with support from Human Resources. Recruit, interview, and train Group Fitness new hires as needed.
Program Design
Create, launch, and facilitate fee-based and usage-based programs to include but not limited to, group personal training, high-intensity workouts, Silver-Sneakers, and Cycle programs. Partner with the clubs management teams to drive success in fee-based programs. Responsibility for establishing revenue goals for programs and tracking the results of set forth metrics as measured against company goals.
Requirements
College degree in Physical Education or related field preferred
Certification from a nationally recognized agency such as ACE, AFFA, ASCM, NSCA, and NSPA
Current CPR and First Aid certification
Minimum of 3 years of management experience in a health club setting
Ability to demonstrate equipment use for exercise training
Excellent customer service skills
Efficient, well organized, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously
