  • Responsibilities

    ROLE SUMMARY

    The Supervisor is the first line leader for the Finishing & Shipping department and works rotating shift.  This position is key to shift operation and productivity, supervising the union hourly workforce assigned to the department.

     

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING):

    • Directly supervises hourly workforce.
    • Actively leads and participates in plant safety, housekeeping, 5S and lean manufacturing programs by ensuring goals are met within the department.
    • Meet productivity targets by establishing clear goals for team and ensure proper equipment care
    • Enhance employee engagement by providing leadership and direction to the shift.  This includes listening and responding to employee issues, taking decisive actions, recognizing excellent performance, and following through with accountability.
    • Meet quality/waste goals by ensuring all direct reports are properly trained on their equipment, following proper procedures, performing requisite inspections, and following up on suggested improvements.
    • The Supervisor must possess strong problem-solving skills and be capable of leading the crew through troubleshooting processes to resolve operational issues and recognizes when additional resources are necessary.
    • Effectively communicate both up and down the organization on key issues (e.g. performance feedback, employee issues, overtime, etc.) 
    • Ensures completion of all required paperwork, schedules, work orders, etc.
    • Verifies all operator rounds are completed and recorded.

    Required Skills

    REQUIRED CHARACTERISTICS

    • BS Degree preferred, but not required
    • 3-5 years’ experience in manufacturing
    • 2+ years’ experience in supervisory position
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing operations
    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
    • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
    • Solid oral and written communication skills
    • Available to provide coverage on holiday, off-days, weekends and after-hours
    • Must be able to pass a background check, drug screening and reference check
    • Legally authorized to work in the United States
    • Proven experience with reliability and continuous improvement principles and techniques

     

    DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS

    • Experience within a unionized environment
    • Working knowledge of SAP
    • Knowledge Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma
