RATE Starting at $20.00 per hour SCHEDULE This position is 24 hours/week from April-October, with the possibility of extension if funding allows. Exact schedule may be negotiated for the right candidate, but we are seeking candidates who are available during weekdays 9am-5pm. Occasional weekend work is required. POSITION SUMMARY You will support the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in coordinating an innovative, new, youth development partnership that seeks to build relationships with Bronx high schools, and support local students in securing summer opportunities at the Bronx Zoo. In your role, you will support hundreds of youth in: gaining work and volunteer experiences at WCS Zoos & Aquarium, developing job skills, and exploring WCS career pathways. Ultimately, you will help build a more diverse, inclusive community of youth who value wildlife and wild places, and support the development of the STEM Career Lattice, a career development program, comprised of dynamic pathways within WCS that lead towards employment in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math field. You will work part-time at the Bronx Zoo, in the WCS Education Department, and report to the Manager of Youth Development. WHO WE ARE The WCS Education Department works across our five wildlife parks: Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and New York Aquarium. Our mission is to inspire a diverse and inclusive movement of conservation advocates by sparking connection with animals and nature, enhancing scientific literacy through hands-on investigation, and engaging constituents in stewardship and action to conserve wildlife and wild places. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Youth Engagement You will act as a champion for WCS careers, motivating young people to connect with summer opportunities at our organization You will visit high schools and attend recruitment events to connect students with WCS job, internship, and volunteer opportunities You will provide support and case management for hundreds of students as they apply for internships and jobs with WCS You will create events that connect students to one another, raise awareness of WCS career pathways, and develop necessary job skills for future success Relationship Building You will work with schools, non-profit partners, and WCS staff to ensure that 25 youth are placed in internships, support 75+ youth towards seasonal employment with WCS Maintain strong partnerships with administrators and counselors at eight Bronx schools Work closely with partners to recruit, assess, orient, and advise youth as needed to support their movement through WCS career pathways Collaborate with WCS Human Resources and Education teams to support all aspects of the program as needed Project Management You will maintain regular communication with all relevant staff, and internal and external partners regarding program progress Utilize MS Outlook and spreadsheets to keep detailed records regarding your communication with school administrators, students, and partners Regularly review and update youth database spreadsheets to document individual case management recommendations Collaborate with internal and external partners using Google Apps (Drive, Docs, Forms, Sheets, Slides) Support our Research & Evaluation team to collect and record statistical information regarding recruitment and student success Support our Research and Evaluation team to reflect on project evaluation data to inform and make recommendations on programmatic direction -Qualification Requirements -QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Education You should possess a postsecondary degree, preferably a Bachelors, in a relevant field of study, such as, Education, Youth Development, Social Work, Counseling, or Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Experience You should have 2 years of experience working with youth, ages 14-24. Knowledge & Skills You are highly motivated, and have a proven capacity to take initiative and work independently Strong planning, time management, organization, and documentation skills You are proficient working with Google Apps (including Drive, Docs, Forms, Sheets, Slides) and spreadsheet applications (preferably Microsoft Excel) Excellent writing and oral communication skills Values You respect youth for their individuality, diverse abilities, gender identities, and cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds You are committed to honoring cultural, racial, and ethnic diversity, and promoting equity in youth development You are passionate about working with and making a difference in the lives of young adults.
