    Position Summary: The Speech Language Pathologist's role is to complete speech and language evaluations, treatments, and other related services as established by state law. The Speech Language Pathologist's work is performed with considerable independence within corporate policies, state laws, and ASHA guidelines. The Speech Language Pathologist's successful work performance requires initiative in supervisory skills as well as the ability to interpret and implement changes to resolve a variety of problems including but not limited to articulation, language, voice, memory/cognition and swallowing. Qualifications and Education: 1. Graduate of an ASHA approved Speech Language Pathology Program with a Masters/Doctorate. 2. Licensed or license-eligible by your state. 3. Pursuing or currently holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence as deemed by obtaining a passing score on the National Examination of Speech Pathology and Audiology (NESPA) 4. Previous speech language therapy desired but not essential. 5. Completes and maintains active CPR certification training. Essential Functions: 1. Treats staff members according to DPTI’s Mission Statement and Guiding Principles. 2. Establish internal and external relationships of mutual trust and respect. 3. Acquire all pertinent background information relating to the patient and the referral diagnosis. 4. Choose the most appropriate assessment tool and administer evaluations by following established guidelines and procedures which are valid, reliable and most appropriate to the patient’s age, background and diagnosis. 5. Determine an appropriate speech therapy diagnosis based on established standards and criteria as set forth by ASHA guidelines. 6. Plan and implement a comprehensive speech therapy program and modify the program in response to changing patient’s needs. 7. Effectively communicate standardized testing results to patients or families in order to determine most functional long and short term goals.

Document all pertinent patient information relating to the evaluation and treatment program, utilizing corporate approved methods of documentation (handwritten, Electronic Medical Record) in an accurate and timely manner. 9. Assign treatment procedures and supervise the progress of the patients. 10. Communicate verbally and in writing with physicians regarding a patient’s course of treatment and progress. 11. To submit billing sheets for each patient treated in accordance with established corporate policy in an accurate and timely manner. 12. Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment, provide direction and information to patients, family members, support staff, and co-workers. 13. Maintain a high standard of professional accountability with respect to safety, efficiency, effectiveness, the ASHA Code of Ethics, and legal issues. 14. Notifies the Center Manager or Clinical Director of scheduling, supply, or maintenance problems as they arise. 15. Maintain the facility in a clean and organized fashion throughout the day. 16. Comply with all DPTI policies and procedures. 17. Instruct patients in home exercise programs and provide written instructions as appropriate. 18. Responsible for continued professional growth and meet minimum continuing education hours as required by ASHA and the state. 19. Maintain licensure requirements including ASHA certification/membership, maintain "good standing" status as evaluated by ASHA and the state. 20. To assist in other facility functions as requested by the Center Manager and/or Clinical Director. 21. May be expected to assist with hiring other clinical staff personnel. 22. Attendance and participation in all staff meetings as determined by Center Manager. 23. Comply with HIPAA Privacy Rules through the appropriate use and disclosure of patient’s personal health information and regulations that all healthcare providers must follow for compliance to protect patient privacy. 24. May be required to attend/participate in marketing opportunities. 25. Maintain own professional growth by attending continuing education courses, clinical in-services, workshops, conferences, and journal clubs. 26. May perform other duties as assigned. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. 9. Able to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. 10. Projects in a neat, professional and courteous manner. Material Handling Occasionally lifting from floor to waist 21-50lbs; lifting 11-20lbs. from waist to shoulder; lifting 0-10 lbs. overhead. Occasionally carrying, pushing, and pulling 21-50 lbs. Positional Tolerance: The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions. Frequent sitting and occasional standing and walking. Frequently reaching forward, occasional forward bending, stooping, squatting and crouching. Rarely kneeling or climbing stairs or ladders. This position frequently performs fine motor skills, reaches above shoulder height, twists at the hips, requires balance, and performs a pinching activity. Rarely grasps heavy items. Requires constant hearing and talking. Constantly requires near acuity; occasionally requires far acuity, depth perception, and adjustment of eye to sharp focus.
