SEAWARD SERVICES is currently an ABLE-BODIED SEAMAN to serve aboard the HST GUAM. The Able-Bodied Seaman will support the safe operation of a Military High Speed Transport (HST) Vessel in a fashion that will promote and maintain the utmost integrity and the highest standard of customer service within the industry, while being responsible for performing general deck duties, assisting the Mates, Engineers and standing watch as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Note that the below are normal for this position but are not all-inclusive.
- Participate in the safe operation of the vessel within the legal requirements of the USCG and other pertinent regulatory agencies under the supervision of the Mate
- Assist the Mate with the operation and maintenance of the vessel in accordance with Seaward Service’s Caretaking Operations Manual, SMS and MSC's HST Technical Manual
- Actively Participate in vessel security duties and monitoring as required
- Assist, under the direction of the Mate, with the safe mooring and docking of the vessel in a variety of weather and water stage conditions
- Maintain a safe deck and work area free of gear drift, debris and equipment stowed properly
- Assist in loading and unloading of vessel supplies and equipment
- Assist with passenger and cargo loading and unloading
- Assist with routine maintenance, painting and clean up as instructed by the Mate
- Participate in drills with Marine and Non-Marine crew as directed by the Master or supervisor
- Participate in Safety, Seamanship and other training as required
- Memorize and carry out assignments on the Watch Quarter Station Bill
- Know location of all safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, fire and bilge pumps, fire hoses, life-jacket lockers, emergency lighting, first aid supplies and rescue equipment; Know proper life-jacket donning methods
- Ensure that safety equipment is provided and properly used for all tasks involving physical hazards.
- Defer to, and act in support of the master in the event of a real or simulated emergency
- Routinely report the condition of vessel and personnel; unusual developments; and repair progress to the Mate
- Monitor safety issues and report hazards to the Mate for correction
- Stay aware of guest service and safety issues and provide regular and dependable feedback to the Master by way of the Mate
- Maintain a safe vessel, monitor safety issues and report hazards to the senior officer immediately
- Follow the on-board chain of command and duties assigned under the Watch Quarter Station Bill
- Stand watch and perform other duties as required
REQUIRED LICENSE/DOCUMENTS/CREDENTIALS:
- UNLIMITED THIRD MATE USCG LICENSE -OR- UNLIMITED AB-MMD/MMC
- RADAR ENDORSEMENT WITH ARPA
- GMDSS CERTIFICATE
- STCW 95 CERTIFICATE WITH OFFICER IN CHARGE OF NAVIGATION WATCH (OICNW) I/2, II/4, VI/1, AND VI/6
- VALID TWIC CARD
- VALID MED CERT WITH UNEXPIRED STCW DATE
- MUST BE ABLE TO ACQUIRE AND MAINTAIN A COMMON ACCESS CARD (CAC)
- MUST HAVE A VALID U.S. PASSPORT
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Three (3) years’ experience as a seagoing mariner, demonstrating the ability to handle increasing levels of responsibility
- High Speed passenger vessel experience preferred
- Water Jet Experience preferred
- Successful completion of in-house IMO-HSC Type Rating Program
- Submit to and pass alcohol and drug testing as mandated by the USCG including, but not limited to, pre-employment, random, and post-accident testing.
- Must pass a USCG required physical exam upon hire and annually
- Maintain compliance with USCG licensing requirements including physical standards
- Accept immunizations as required by contract due to area of operation and/or nature of work
- Present a neat and well-groomed personal appearance commensurate with professional maritime standards
- Wear company uniform and required safety equipment
- Must be aware of the importance of the permit to operate and how operation of the vessel is governed by the IMO-HSC and other documents and regulations
- Ability to carry materials weighing upwards of 75 pounds.
- Ability to work on scaffold, ladders and other heights.
- Ability to working on vessel in all types of weather conditions and operating conditions during day and night hours
- Observe for safety. Vision correctable to 20/40. Full color vision, no night blindness. Full range of all limbs. Pass USCG hearing test standards.
- Ability to determine safe or unsafe conditions. Process calculations occasionally.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Shift rotations are typically 63 days on and 63 days off
- Outside conditions, extreme heat and cold.
- Marine operations are subject to varied wake and motion.
