POSITION SUMMARY:
Senior Accountant manages general accounting functions and the preparation of reports and statistics reflecting earnings, profits, cash flows, and other financial results and/or analysis as needed. Formulates and administers approved accounting practices throughout the organization to ensure that financial and operating reports accurately reflect the condition of the business and provide reliable information necessary to control operations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Full cycle accounting; apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports
All general ledger functions; prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information; journal entries and accruals for monthly, quarterly and year-end close
Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions; perform reconciliations of cash and other balance sheet accounts; summarizes financial status by collecting information, preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, and other statements.
Analyze, generate and process intercompany entries needed to adjust or reallocate expenses between business units
Execute monthly close of general ledger and maintain the close schedule; inform accounting group and business units when monthly trial balance is ready for review.
Maintain well-documented work papers and instructions for journal entries and account reconciliations.
Compare actual results to budgeted results and provide variance explanations on a monthly basis.
Participate in quarterly and annual audits process.
Participate in internal and external audits, tax planning, and tax return preparation.
Ensures internal controls and policies in financial reporting mechanics to prevent inaccuracies in accounting statement to avoid losses because of errors, fraud, or technological breakdowns.
Ensure that documentation is maintained to allow the Accounting Department to track all acquisitions, maintenance and repair of property, plant and equipment at all locations.
Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and or format data and/or reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance
4 -8 years of general accounting experience
Technical knowledge of financial statements, modeling and analysis techniques.
Working knowledge of an ERP system required, preferably PeopleSoft or Microsoft Dynamics GP/SL
Ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and resolve issues.
Proficient in change management (promote, coordinate, and support)
Strong organizational and time management skills; must be able to maintain confidential information.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and effective interaction skills with all levels of the organization; comfortable presenting to executive leadership.
Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects. Ability to work in a high paced environment with strict deadlines; track record of participation in successful team environment and maintain reporting relationships.
Assist other departments/team members when additional support is needed or requested.
