  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    This job operates in a lab environment with equipment such as analytical balances, food homogenization equipment, pipetting tools, incubators, water baths, plate readers, various commercial protein and DNA based technologies for food pathogen detection (VIDAS, BAX, GDS, GeneUp, BioRAd), spectrophotometer, VITEK Microbial Identification System, basic wet chemistry equipment for analysis of moisture, protein, fat, ash, salt.

    Media Preparation (60%)

    • Preparation and sterilization of culture media
    • Proper labeling, storage, and disposal of solutions and media
    • Accurate documentation of all solutions and media prepared using Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
    • Maintenance and verification of general laboratory equipment
    • Daily monitoring of the DI water system
    • Daily monitoring of sterilization units
    • Managing time and tasks efficiently while maintaining excellent quality of work
    • General housekeeping duties
    • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

    Sample Preparation (40%)

    • Aseptically handles samples and performs analyses according to operating procedures and test methodologies
    • Maintains and verifies equipment
    • Reports non-conformances to the supervisor or manager
    • Maintains records of all quality activities as documented in operating procedures and test methodologies
    • General housekeeping duties
    • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION

    • Associates degree (A.A./A.S.) or higher - Required
    • Interest in Microbiology/Chemistry or related field or commercial laboratory experience - Preferred

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

    • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
    • Must be able to routinely lift 20-30 pounds and be comfortable with handling hot liquids.
    • Experience with Windows PC and Microsoft Office
    • Able to calculate basic math
    • Successful completion of a drug test and criminal background check.

    SCHEDULE

    • Tuesday-Saturday; Flexible
