    Job Description

    Our client, a global group of energy and petrochemical companies with employees over more than 70 countries, is looking to hire Product Quality Laboratory Technicians at their Innovation Center in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. The initial assignment will be for one year with the potential of being extended for a longer term. Relocation may be considered.

    The Product Quality Laboratory Technicians will conduct the following operations at the Product Quality Laboratory:

    • Sample analyses of gasses, liquids and solids that are produced and consumed within a world scale cracker, polyethylene production, wastewater treatment facility, and utilities. Most methods will be from global standards to assure our customers are receiving the highest quality products.
    • Samples will be either delivered to the lab or picked up by lab techs from the field. All samples will be small (<5 kg gross weight).
    • Technicians will analyze samples for intermediate use within the plant as well as final product release.
    • Statistical Quality control and system monitoring samples will be analyzed at a regular frequency. Staff must be competent in proper SQC methodology and must take action on out-of-control situations.
    • Data will be reported via an electronic laboratory information management system (LIMS). All Data will require review, calculation, or manipulation by technicians before being released.
    • Technicians will be expected to properly segregate and dispose of waste materials and chemicals.
    • Sections of the Analytical Lab will operate 24 hours a day, while other sections may be days only every day of the week. Overtime and callouts may be required as needs dictate.
    • Escalating and taking action when samples or results do not conform to past history.
    • Maintaining consumable stock room, restocking work areas and assuring lab areas are always ready for work, make standards and dispose of expired rea.
    • Maintaining proper housekeeping and ensuring safe laboratory functions.
    • Troubleshooting, maintenance and other tasks to keep instrumentation and lab system running reliably.
    • Escalating issues as needed.
    • All personnel must be trained in testing methodology, Laboratory Safety and technology pertinent to the Product Quality Laboratory e.g HPLC, GC, ICP, XRF, MI, Density, etc.
    • Work in a safe manner. Exercise stop work authority. Look for “at risk” and atypical items during pre-work inspection. Mitigate hazards immediately.
    • Record safe work and product quality events in Sphera Cloud- Event Management system
    • Participate in special studies or projects as assigned.
    • Participate in Procedure / Method / document review program as required.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Prior full time analytical lab technician experience.
    • Associate degree OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
    • A working knowledge of laboratory information management systems and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) is a must.
    • Be able to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule (including weekends, holidays and callout/overtime).
    • Be available to respond to unscheduled callouts.
    • Have ability to read and understand analytical procedures methods.
    • Be willing to work in a diverse, multi-skilled, achievement oriented, team-based environment.
    • Proficiency in basic math skills preferred (e.g., rounding numbers, fractions, percentages, simple statistics, use of hand calculator)
    • Proficiency in basic chemistry preferred (e.g., pH, acid-base reactions operating principles of simple lab equipment, recognize chemical formulas)
    • Experience with personal or laboratory computers preferred (used frequently as a work tool for school or job, data entry, spreadsheet calculations)
    • Must be eligible to work in the USA.
    • Hourly rate for this position can vary between $18 - $30/hour depending on experience.
