    Job Description

    Our Dayton, NJ laboratory is looking for a laboratory technician to join their Air team. The Laboratory Technician prepares samples with accuracy and precision in accordance to SGS’ analytical SOPs.  This position works independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met.  The laboratory technician understands and applies basic analytical chemistry principles, always follow safe laboratory practices and maintains a safe working environment.  This Laboratory Technician reports to the Laboratory Manager. 

    The Laboratory Technician: 

    • Prepare samples according to SGS’ analytical SOPs using instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies. 

    • Perform analytical measurements that are both accurate and precise. 

    • Work independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met. 

    • Understand and apply basic analytical chemistry principles.  

    • Use and update LIMS to track and manage workload. 

    • Follow safe practices and maintain a safe working environment. 

    • Work with the Laboratory Manager to maintain workload production. 

    • Apply technical judgment to determine potential problems for samples. 

    • Calibrate and troubleshoot instrumentation. 

    • Update and load data information into LIMS.  Use LIMS for appropriate background information. 

    • Appropriately uses laboratory applications.  

    • Track equipment inventory and instrument quality control. 

    • Appropriately follow safety, operational integrity and quality control requirements for the required work.

     

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • A degree or diploma in a science field with relevant laboratory classes and/or equivalent experience. 
    • Environmental laboratory experience is a plus. 
    • Must be able to perform analytical measurements with great accuracy and precision. 
    • Must have the ability to read and follow documented procedures, SOPs, safety rules, and operating and maintenance instructions. 
    • Knowledge and understanding of basic analytical chemistry principles. 
    • Some analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are a requirement of this position.  Must have some understanding of process and workflow. 
    • Manual dexterity required. Must be able to perform some repetitive tasks and keep errors to a minimum. 
    • Demonstrate upmost level of integrity in all instances and show respect towards others and company principles. 
    • Excellent time management skills which includes the ability to balance multiple projects concurrently (with different deadlines) and arrange the resources necessary to accomplish them. 
    • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). 
    • Experience with LIMS is an asset.

    Physical/Sensory Demands Frequency Requirements:

    • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks for sustained periods of time. 
    • Standing, particularly for sustained periods of time. 
    • Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving object horizontally from position to position. 
    • Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature. 
    • Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects. 
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works well with the hands, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
