    Job Description

    SUMMARY  The Team Leader, Chemistry Laboratory LSS serves as a technical resource and leads the team in analytical techniques and analysis of data. Assists Manager or Director of Laboratory to oversee specific operation and daily activities of specific group within department (for example Chromatography Group, Dissolution Group, Elemental Impurities, Physical-Chemical testing etc.). Responsibility may include, but not limited to scheduling of the samples testing and projects, documents writing, training personnel and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment. Serves as a technical resource and leads the team in analytical techniques and analysis of data.

    REPORTING LINE Directly reports to Manager, Chemistry Laboratory; or Supervisor, Chemistry Laboratory; or Director, Chemistry Laboratory Dotted reporting line - none

    JOB FUNCTIONS  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. •    Manages a team of the Laboratory Analysts, Laboratory Technicians and Laboratory Assistants. •    Has responsibility of direct reports (in conjunction with the Laboratory Manager interviews and selects final candidates, plans and schedules daily work assignments, completes performance evaluations, performance management and disciplinary actions documents for employees). •    Responsible for the on-time and quality of work produced by the Chemistry Laboratory. •    Ensures the laboratory delivers results as scheduled and as agreed with the client. •    Responsible for compliance with current regulatory practices. •    Serves as a technical expert for the team in study designs, analytical techniques and analysis of data.  •    Trains Analysts on techniques and methods of analysis. •    May assist with writing and reviewing protocols and reports, and other projects. •    Develops and validates analytical methods, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other operating, safety and quality documents as needed. •    Assist with investigations, responds to and follow-up on client inquiries and complaints. •    Provides technical support to Marketing, Sales, Customer Service and clients regarding testing, reporting or technical inquiries. •    Inputs and maintains technical information to support the laboratory functions/operations. •    Completes laboratory tasks and assignments within tight deadlines. •    Manages multiple projects as assigned. •    Maintains Laboratory Notebook where applicable.    •    Assists in keeping inventory of laboratory chemicals and equipment necessary for the day to day functioning of the laboratory and in compiling list of supplies to be ordered when needed.  •    Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures. •    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  REQUIRED:  •    Master's degree in Chemistry or related sciences AND •    5+ years of experience in a regulated commercial lab environment following strict safety standards with hands-on experience of chemistry instruments OR •    Bachelor Degree in Chemistry and similar disciplines AND •    7+ years of experience in a regulated commercial lab environment following strict safety standards with hands-on experience of chemistry instruments OR •    Associate Degree in Chemistry and similar disciplines AND •    10+ years of experience in a regulated commercial lab environment following strict safety standards with hands-on experience of chemistry instruments

    PREFERRED:  •    International business exposure with consumer products a plus •    2+ years supervisory experience 

    KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES •    Advanced knowledge of routine & non-routine testing methods required •    Language Skills: English - Advanced level required •    Mathematical Skills: Advanced level required; experience with statistics preferred •    Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Intermediate level required, advanced preferred •    Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word) - Advanced user proficiency preferred; Intermediate user proficiency required •    Understanding of the company Quality Management System ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 requirements in related tasks •    Knowledge of government, industry and other regulations, standards and methodologies including but not limited to - United States Pharmacopeia (USP), The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). •    Excellent communication skills, verbal and writing, including grammar and composition •    Leadership skills and abilities •    Strong time management and organizational skills are required. Must have a sense of urgency •    Strong attention to details •    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals and communicate them to employees •    Ability to handle multiple competing priorities TRAVEL  •    No travel required. Voluntary travel may be requested for training purposes.

    EQUIPMENT •    This job operates in a laboratory environment.  •    This role routinely uses chemistry equipment, including but not limited to the following:  HPLC, LCMS, GCMS, and ICPMS •    This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones.

Inability to see colors should be disclosed.

    AUDITORY REQUIREMENTS:  •    Must be able to hear equipment operating, alarms sounding, traffic, telephones
