    Job Description

    MANAGER, CHEMISTRY LABORATORY - SGS North America, Inc., Fairfield, New Jersey. Supervise Chemists, Technicians, Login team and QC team (Daily tasks as well as hiring: interviewing, selection; planning work, scheduling, performance evaluations, performance management and termination for employees); ensures client requests are met in a timely and effective manner / Meets with clients and helps to resolve client complaints; participates in negotiating contracts and provides information required quoting; responsible for protocol and report write up and approval; develops department plans to improve efficiency and meet changing client needs; represents SGS during client visits and regulatory inspections, in conjunction with the Site Manager, plans and executes: staffing, supply, equipment, and facility issues as necessary to properly run the chemistry testing department to meet client and SGS needs; also ensures department operates in a manner that is profitable to SGS; responsible for providing data and feedback on monthly and yearly forecasts / conducts regular performance reviews of department staff; and adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.

    Qualifications

    • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field plus four (4) years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.  Experience must include: Four (4) years of experience supervising day-to-day laboratory operation and scheduling of routine samples and projects; four (4) years of experience training laboratory analysts on the following techniques and methods: Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy (ICP-MS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES), and Microwave assisted sample digestion; four (4) years of experience performing testing (including Method Development, Method Validation, and routine Elemental Analysis) in accordance with specified methods,; documenting activities in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) or ISO 17025; four (4) years of experience ensuring client requests are met in a timely and effective manner; meeting with clients and helping to resolve client complaints; and four (4) years of experience participating in negotiating contracts and providing information required for quoting.
