    Job Summary

    This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Facilities and Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Position may be filled as a term-limited appointment NTE 1 year and 1 day. Term appointments may be extended beyond six years, up to eight years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight years

    Job Description

    • Operate a variety of machine tools, such as lathes, boring mills, milling machines, grinding machines, screw machines, radial drills, etc.
    • Operates a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine (CNC in the automatic mode).
    • Control machine feeds and speeds.
    • Determine when the fixture, holding, device, cutting tool, or the setup is in need of adjustment.
    • Make minor changes in machine set up, such as, realigning the work piece for different sizes or changes in shape.
    • Check and measure parts.
    • Utilize different cutting tools for successive operations.
    • Saw material on vertical saw and chop saw.

    Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Machine Tool Operator ~ without more than normal supervision, to include operating a variety of machine tools, such as lathes, boring mills, milling machines, grinding machines and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines to perform in the automatic mode using the feeds and speeds programmed with the assistance of a higher graded worker. No changes in set up or manual input are required, except for minor adjustments and compensations for tool and work piece size differences. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: The work requires standing, stooping, bending, and reaching. The incumbent frequently handles, lifts, and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, the incumbent may be required to lift and move items in excess of 40 pounds, but only with the assistance of coworkers or weight handling devices. Working Conditions: The work is performed inside well-lighted, adequately heated and ventilated shop area.Shop is usually noisy and dirty and there is constant danger to the skin and eyes from flying metal chips, abrasive articles and hot metal. Subject to skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds, and there is constant danger to fingers, hands, and other body parts from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces, etc. Safety glasses are mandatory and safety shoes are necessary.
