    Job Summary

    This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

    Job Description

    • Perform installation, maintenance and repair to water main breaks, water main valves, sewer lines, fire hydrants and emergency natural gas lines.
    • Determine appropriate combination of pumps, gauges, and regulators needed to support the pressures of pipe distribution systems.
    • Interpret blueprints, sketches and specifications to plan and lay out the operation of various piping systems.
    • Use and maintain various hand and power tools required for pipefitting and plumbing.
    • Troubleshoot various plumbing systems, equipment and backflow prevention devices.

    Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Pipefitter ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties which include installing and repairing pipe distribution systems and equipment, and maintaining a variety of utility, supply, and disposal systems. I can work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to lay out the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of various piping systems; set up system routes and install appropriate mechanisms in the combination needed to ensure the proper operation of the systems. I have some knowledge of high-pressure piping systems, how relief valves, check valves, pressure regulators, expansion joints, and other pressure supporting and controlling devices are installed and how they operate to control increases and decreases in pressure, flow, circulation, and expansion in the systems. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort - The pipefitter must perform his or her duties while using ladders, scaffolding, and platforms to complete projects in hard to reach places. Additionally the pipefitter will be required to stand stoop bend, kneel, climb and work in nontraditional positions, lift weight in excess of 75 pounds, and perform duties in extreme hot or cold conditions. Working Conditions - Work is performed underground in a high security facility as well as facilities above ground. Specific conditions will be dirty, dusty and greasy. There is a risk of strains, cuts, scrapes, cuts, infections, and possibly broken bones.
