This position is located in the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO), Office of Enforcement. FHEO's mission is to eliminate housing discrimination, promote economic opportunity, and achieve diverse, inclusive communities by leading the nation in the enforcement, administration, development, and public understanding of federal fair housing policies and laws. FHEO protects people from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, and familial status. The Office of Enforcement provides advice on matters related to enforcement and compliance under all fair housing and civil rights statutes enforced by the department. As a Supervisory Equal Opportunity Specialist, you will: Manage the activities of the staff in their immediate office; including an Architect, program analyst, and subordinate divisions engaged in national fair housing enforcement and compliance activities Provide direction and oversight to the management of the Compliance and Disability Rights Division and Program Standards and Compliance Division. Advise the Assistant Secretary General Deputy Assistant Secretary for FHEO, DAS for Enforcement and Programs, and ADAS for Enforcement and Compliance on the development and implementation of policies and regulations related to the enforcement of civil rights, fair housing and disability statutes.

Qualification Summary

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-15 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes: Directing, implementing and evaluating investigative and enforcement programs as they relate to fair housing; Conducting investigations, equal opportunity compliance reviews, or litigation/litigation support to combat housing discrimination under Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (the Fair Housing Act) and other civil rights laws prohibiting housing discrimination; and Experience in managerial techniques, human relations and skills to effectively address a wide variety of employees, stakeholder and client issues. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-15 you must have been at the GS-14 level for 52 weeks. Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
