What we look for in a candidate

We look for candidates who are eager to make an impact for our clients by doing real, hands-on work. Successful Jefferies Interns are able to multitask and manage a variety of projects simultaneously. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism and relationship management skills together with strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills. The work is fast paced, challenging, and intellectually stimulating. The ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines, be adaptable, and work both independently and as part of a team are essential traits of a successful candidate. Candidates should have a strong academic background and be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent program.

Desired Background and Skills

• Candidates pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field
• Expected graduation between December 2027 and June 2028
• Programming experience in one or more of Python, Java, C++, C#, .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript or KDB/Q
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, APIs, relational databases and SQL; exposure to Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake or similar platforms
• Interest in capital markets, investment banking, client relationship management, trading, risk analytics or financial data
• Exposure to cloud, distributed systems, microservices, containers, CI/CD, Git and modern software engineering practices
• Familiarity with data analysis, visualization, BI/reporting, AI/ML, large language models or retrieval-augmented generation is a plus
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to learn quickly, collaborate in a fast-paced global team and balance experimentation with disciplined delivery

Summer Analyst and Associate Interns may be placed in one of the following teams: IB Tech, CRM & Analytics, Fixed Income Technology, Equities Technology, or Risk Technology.

IB TECH, CRM & ANALYTICS

IB Tech, CRM & Analytics is a strategic, agile and cross-functional team supporting global digitalization through innovative technology, data science and deep analytics. The team partners with client-facing businesses and corporate functions to build technology for investment banking, trading, sales and research, with a focus on revenue, efficiency and client service. Summer Analysts may work with Software Developers, UI Designers, Product Managers and Business Analysts on technologies such as microservices, containerization, SaaS, CI/CD and serverless solutions using AWS and Salesforce clouds.

FIXED INCOME

Fixed Income Technology develops automation, analytics and high-performance solutions that support Jefferies' global Fixed Income sales and trading businesses. The team supports Rates, Credit, MBS and FX client bases, maintains a controlled and resilient production environment, and delivers a forward-looking change portfolio to support business growth. Interns can gain exposure to software and data engineering, cloud technology, trading applications and production support while working with technologists and business users on real market challenges.

EQUITIES

The global Equities Technology team builds solutions across cash equities, portfolio and algorithmic trading, central risk, listed and OTC derivatives, convertible bonds, equity swaps, ETFs and basket trading. Its platforms support order management, quantitative trading, real-time position and risk management, AI/ML data analytics, trade lifecycle management, and regulatory and client reporting. The team uses technologies including Python, Java, C++, C#, web visualization, cloud platforms, high-performance messaging and in-memory databases.

RISK TECHNOLOGY

Risk Technology is a global cross-functional team responsible for Jefferies' enterprise risk platform. The team works closely with Risk Managers to identify, evaluate and manage risk across the Firm, using large datasets, distributed near-real-time calculation engines, and sophisticated visualization and analysis tools. The next generation risk platform uses cloud, Snowflake, containers, Gen AI and modern BI technologies, giving interns an opportunity to help solve complex real-world problems in financial risk management.

The salary for the Analyst role is $100,000 and Associate role is $120,000 (pro-rated for the 10-week internship program).
