    General Description

    The MSIM Fixed Income Investment & Business Analysis Co-op Program provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting investment, research, trading, and business functions across a diverse range of fixed income strategies. Co-ops work alongside portfolio managers, analysts, traders, and business professionals while contributing to projects that support investment decision-making, market research, and day-to-day business operations.

    Through a combination of hands-on experience, mentorship, and training, participants develop analytical, research, communication, and business skills while gaining exposure to financial markets, portfolio management, and the investment management industry.

    Potential Team Placements

    Candidates who apply to the Fixed Income Investment & Business Analysis Co-op Program may be considered for opportunities across several Fixed Income teams. Based on business needs and candidate qualifications, applicants may be selected to interview with one or more of the following teams:

    • Emerging Markets Debt Trading & Operations
    • Emerging Market Corporate
    • Municipal Bonds Research
    • High Yield
    • Broad Markets

    Please note that candidates may be considered for and selected to interview with multiple Fixed Income teams based on their background, interests, qualifications, and business needs.

    Responsibilities

    • Monitor financial markets, economic developments, and investment trends.
    • Conduct market, sector, and investment research to support investment decision-making.
    • Support portfolio managers, analysts, and traders with day-to-day investment activities and strategic initiatives.
    • Track government auctions, bond issuances, market activity, and portfolio exposures.
    • Compile, analyze, and summarize market data, research findings, and investment insights.
    • Assist with portfolio reporting, competitor analysis, and business reporting for internal stakeholders.
    • Support credit and fundamental research through the collection and analysis of financial and statistical information.
    • Monitor portfolio holdings, trading activity, and business metrics.
    • Prepare presentations, reports, and materials for meetings and investment discussions.
    • Propose ideas to improve business processes and operational efficiency.
    • Complete ad-hoc research, reporting, and analytical projects supporting business needs.

    Qualifications / Skills / Requirements

    • Ability to commit to six months of full-time co-op employment and commute to the Boston office for the required in-office schedule.
    • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Accounting, Mathematics, or a related field, with an expected graduation date following completion of the co-op.
    • Demonstrated interest in financial markets, investing, economics, or asset management through coursework, extracurricular activities, or prior experience.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
    • Experience with financial research, data analysis, or investment-related projects is preferred.
    • Familiarity with Bloomberg and advanced Excel skills are a plus.
    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

    Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $30.00 and $40.00 per hour at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
