Summary The Data Science team is currently looking for highly qualified candidates for a Winter internship (Jan-May 2019). Data Scientists are responsible for delivering insightful solutions to complex problems and using data to help steer the continued growth and increased engagement of Vox Medias sites. As a part of our team, you will be utilizing enormous volumes of data to extract meaningful insights into our content and our audience. Specifically, we are testing and building a recommendation system to increase user engagement and develop algorithms that will result in a more personalized experience for the user. What You'll Do Understand current recommender system and analyze performance of various experiments across Vox Media networks. Incorporate textual and topical context of articles as well as audience data to extend current algorithms for recommendations. Work with the Data Products team to integrate learnings into editorial and user products. Design hypothesis tests, oversee test execution, and help with the evaluation of results. What You'll Bring Recently completed or currently pursuing advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Math, Physics or a related quantitative field. Demonstrated familiarity with recommender systems or neural networks. Initiative on solving problems and completing tasks in a reasonable time frame. Good communication skills, ability to work on a geographically dispersed team. Programming ability in Python. Familiarity with Unix operating system. Familiarity with database query languages (SQL). Experience in machine learning and statistical modeling.
