The purpose of the Business Innovation Internships are to develop, establish and maintain Innovation strategies to meet Innovations mission & success metrics. Effective management of assigned related activities will also be responsibilities of the position. The student intern works under the direction of a senior level employee or manager to complete projects or tasks that support the business area goals and results. Performs tasks by adapting to new or changing situations in a team environment. Gathers information, plans and organizes work efficiently and effectively. Applies and learns technical skills appropriate to the specific job assignment. Responsibilities: Education/Licenses/Designations * Must be in pursuit of a post-secondary degree or certificate during the semester of the internship. * Pursuing post-secondary education in a related major to the internship. Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements * Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service * Basic analytical skills. * Basic knowledge and experience working within a team environment. * Basic knowledge of developing and managing project work. Innovations mission as a Venture building engine is to build high-growth, high-margin businesses, with a clear nexus to our future, where we possess an unfair advantage over the competition. The position will be located at American Familys office in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. The Innovation Design Intern will work closely with Innovation team members and play an integral role on projects utilizing innovation frameworks and human centered design. An optimal candidate will have depth in one arena listed below but have an understanding of how each role plays into the creation of a well-designed, viable business initiative. Job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Customer Research Observe and assist in customer research interviews Test concepts and listen to reactions of real customers Utilize story-telling to translate research into insights Assist in creation and design of low fidelity experiments, PoCs, and MVPs to test assumptions, obtain customer feedback, and iterate on concepts Business Viability Support the Innovation as we reimagine customer experiences and needs Assist in the design and creation of new business models Assist in the design of captivating value propositions Support the creation of financial models Technology Investigate, experiment with, and vet new technologies Apply a variety of technologies to reimagined offerings/systems to answer pain points/need and business desirability Preferred Qualifications Preferred candidates will be in pursuit of an advanced degree in Design, an MBA, or other graduate level degree Fundamental design skills and/or experience as an innovator (you might consider yourself a Design Strategist or Technologist) Ability to work in a self-directed manner, proactively requesting support when needed Ability to translate your thoughts into simple, napkin sketches Passion for bringing the human perspective into new, disruptive business models Excellent oral, written, and visual presentation skills High energy, positive, and proactive attitude Comfortable with ambiguity Ability to utilize effectual logic and problem solving skills Team player Primary Accountabilities * Develop an understanding of American Family's business environments, corporate culture and structure to support work initiatives. * Maintain work efficiency and respond positively to a changing environment. * Open to and supports new ideas, systems and procedures.
