The Prescription Renewal Coordinator performs a wide range of routine and complex administrative duties in support of clinical operations. This position accepts prescription renewal requests from a variety of sources such as but not limited to the following: direct patient telephone calls, electronic provider requests, voicemail, and/or faxed requests as well as monitors and processes incoming prescription renewal requests. The Coordinator reviews patients medical record before renewing prescription to investigate allergy status and need for office visit or laboratory testing according to established guidelines. You may prepare and complete as directed the call in/fax Prior Authorization Forms to the appropriate insurer. Inform appropriate parties including but not limited to the pharmacy and patient. Coordinate conversations regarding the denial with prescriber and patient for conversion to covered medication options. Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company policies and procedures. STRONG MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY AND WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE IN A CLINICAL AMBULATORY ENVIRONMENT. Education: High School degree (or equivalent education, training or experience). Certification from of an approved pharmacy technician program, or equivalent institutional/retail pharmacy experience with appropriate registration as required by Massachusetts Pharmacy Board of Registration, as well as National Pharmacy Training Certification strongly preferred. Bachelors or Associates degree in medical assisting or graduate of certificate program preferred with commensurate pharmacy experience and pharmacy knowledge may be substituted for pharmacy certification. Skills and Experience: Three years of institutional/retail pharmacy experience or a clinical support function that is responsible for prescription renewal coordination. Requires knowledge of medication abbreviation and symbols as well as common drug dosage calculations. Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills required. Must demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills as well as problem-solving abilities. Requires knowledge of and previous experience implementing laws and regulations related to pharmacy practice and patient confidentiality. Strong computer skills required using Microsoft systems and previous electronic medical record experience strongly preferred.
