Under general supervision, performs expanded and advanced level medical assistant duties including but not limited to identifying and resolving concerns regarding patient satisfaction, patient flow, and compliance with procedures and guidelines. Typically provides direct clinical support to one or more clinicians. Demonstrating a high level of competence provides back-up coverage for support staff. Works to improve clinical efficiencies of the operation by determining urgency and priority of walk-ins, add-on patients and patient consults. Provides direct clinical and clerical support to clinicians. In some cases may support more than one department. Reports to the department supervisor or designee _ _ Education: High School graduate (or equivalent education, training or experience) required. Associate's degree in medical assisting or graduate of medical assistant certification program preferred. A bachelors or other non- clinical degree combined with an interest in healthcare and excellent problem- solving, multi-tasking, technology-literate skill sets can at times be substituted for medical assistant certification or work experience. Skills and Experience: Skills and experience typically acquired through a minimum of one-year prior experience in a clinical or customer service setting as determined by the department (a bachelors degree may be substituted for experience) Able to communicate in a professional and appropriate manner. Strong interpersonal, customer service, time management, and organizational skills required. Computer experience required with the ability to use word processing and spreadsheet programs. Electronic medical record (EMR) experience and/or aptitude to master the EMR based on other technology experience required.
