Underwriting Assistant, MGA Job Type: - Full Time - Non -Exempt position Compensation: - $18.00 to $20.00 per hour Avalon Risk Management, a national insurance broker specializing in the transportation industry, is looking for someone with strong interpersonal and organizational skills to assist our MGA Underwriting Team. The Underwriting Assistant will assist our MGA department on a part-time or full-time basis with various support tasks for our clients and insurance markets at our headquarters in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. This non-exempt position reports directly to the VP of Underwriting and may take direction from our Senior Underwriter. Our ideal candidate has 1-2 years' general office and/or customer service experience; working in a commercial or personal lines insurance environment is a plus. The position requires excellent Word, Excel, Outlook and Access skills. Strong communication skills, including grammar and spelling strengths, must be demonstrated. We need someone with strong mathematical skills and a good eye for detail. Flexibility and the ability to multi-task will help you go far in this growing department. This position is clerical in nature and daily tasks will include data entry, scanning and communicating via e-mail to our various sales offices. In this role, the assistant works with our underwriting team on Access database tasks including data entry, running reports, performing merges, and creating policy documents. The candidate must have excellent organizational skills and be able to follow directions and work-flow procedures as well as be adept at meeting deadlines. Some of the responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to: - Assist in preparation for monthly renewals, non-renewals, cancellations, and reinstatements as assigned. - Process endorsements, print policies, run loss reports, etc. as requested or required. - Provide general customer service support: fielding phone calls and emails from clients, following up for accurate completion of forms, etc. - Assist with filings (new, cancels, etc.) as required. - Upload documents, do billing follow up, assist with mailings, emails, etc. - Assist with creating proposals, policies and endorsements as directed by the underwriting team for applicable lines of business. This includes the issuance, scanning and e-mailing of copies to agents, processing required number of copies for distribution to policy file, the program company, or other companies as determined.
