    FINANCIAL REPORTING SPECIALIST 

    Benefits Data Trust (BDT) seeks an analytical Financial Reporting Specialist to join the Finance team in supporting the organization's mission to help people live healthier, more independent lives by creating smarter ways to access essential benefits and services through COVID-19 and beyond. The finance team uses financial analysis, planning, accounting, and reporting to bring our financial perspectives into the organization's overall strategic decision making. The Financial Reporting Specialist will help strengthen that process to advance the organization's innovation and impact. The Financial Reporting Specialist will support the Financial Analyst with creating reporting routines to democratize financial information within the organization, now necessary as we look to scale our impact across the country and evolve our products and services.  The Financial Reporting Specialist will also be responsible for updating and maintaining our financial models.  The Specialist will prepare periodic reports to government agencies and granting bodies on the organization's use of funds.   

    Based in our Center City Philadelphia office, the FINANCIAL REPORTING SPECIALIST reports to the FINANCIAL ANALYST. 

    DUE TO COVID-19, BDT IS OPERATING UNDER A REMOTE-WORKING PROTOCOL, FOLLOWING GOVERNMENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND CDC GUIDELINES. WHILE THIS JOB WILL BEGIN AS FULLY REMOTE, WHEN BDT DETERMINES it is safe to do so based on public health recommendations, WE WILL MOVE BACK INTO OUR CENTRE SQUARE OFFICE. AT THAT TIME, ALL PHILADELPHIA-BASED STAFF ARE EXPECTED to transition BACK INTO THE OFFICE. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    • Work in coordination with the Financial Analyst to maintain and update existing financial models, as well as build new analytical models, as necessary 

    • Prepare funder financial reports 

    • Prepare and distribute program budget-to-actual reports.  Schedule and assist in the preparation for cross-departmental meetings to explain results and findings. Take meeting minutes 

    • Support the preparation of monthly internal financial reports with variance analysis for various audiences (board, executives, directors) 

    • Assist in the creation of annual department budgets 

    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of routines for distributing and translating department budgets 

    • Coordinate with department heads and perform department budget variation analyses, research, and report back on variances as necessary 

    • Prepare schedules for outside auditors to be included in external financial statements 

    • Assist in the coordination of annual financial statement audit and on-demand funder audits 

    • Perform continuous assessment of the close process to reduce the timing to close the financial period 

    • Support month-end and year-end closing 

    • Assist the Accounting Manager with allocation processes and invoice preparation, as necessary 

    • Provide back-up support for mission-critical accounting functions 

    • Participate in other projects as required

     

    REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is preferred, or equivalent work experience is required 

    • Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles is required 

    • Experience with Abila accounting software is preferred 

    • Experience preparing audit-ready financial statements with required disclosures for a $10MM+ organization is preferred 

    • Strong Excel experience is preferred 

    • Experience working at a public accounting firm welcomed 

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity 

    • Ability to execute and follow-through to completion while maintaining detailed documentation 

    • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with diverse personalities
