BASIC FUNCTION Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies has an opening in our San Francisco, California location for Subpoena Compliance Specialist. Responsible for timely compliance with incoming subpoena requests according to internal guidelines. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Denotes "essential functions" in accordance with the guidelines of The Americans with Disabilities Act. We will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories as required by local ordinance. Receive and log all incoming subpoenas. Handle and route checks received to Accounting and route civil subpoenas to Legal. Ensure that all valid requests are processed within the specified period, preventing the Company from incurring legal penalties or fines. Comply with requests following all internal guidelines for handling of privileged documents. Contact and communicate with copy services and applicant attorneys to provide status updates. Correctly identify all proper claims for each request by searching claims database and EAMS website when necessary. Prepare electronic copy of non-privileged records and maintain internal spreadsheet to reflect accurate subpoena status. Sign certifications of records or certifications of no records as the responsible party for the Company. Coordinate closely with all internal groups which are required to support the subpoena function (Legal, Claims, Operations, etc.). Proactively communicates directly to supervisor any problems or issues that may adversely impact response to any subpoena. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelors Degree; 2 Years experience in a legal support role; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATH ABILITY: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. TECHNICAL SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of subpoenas, privileges, and current technologies in data entry and file management. COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft word processing software; Microsoft spreadsheet software; Adobe Acrobat PDF processing software; and be proficient on applicable databases, systems and vendor software programs.
