The Human Performance Lab Intern will gain hands-on experience of product research from the leading running brand Brooks Running Company. The primary responsibilities of the Lab Intern will be to assist in data collection and processing. The protocols will include but not be limited to biomechanical, mechanical, and physiological testing. The goal for the Lab Intern is to become self-sufficient in both data collection and processing through a project-based approach. They will also gain knowledge on how the lab influences and impacts the design and development of running shoes and apparel. Responsibilities: Assist Biomechanists in the collection and processing of human subject data. Become autonomous in the use of various instruments to collect biomechanical and physiological data. Set-up biomechanical instruments, calibrate, and validate data collected. Perform mechanical testing on plaque materials and shoes. Use machine shop to create various prototypes and lab equipment. Analyze mechanical and biomechanical data in Matlab. Create mechanical and biomechanical reports based in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Become familiar with anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics of running/walking. Become familiar with running shoe design features and components. Develop loyal, engaging relationships with our customers and the Brooks community. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Currently in a program or recently graduated from graduate-level degree in kinesiology, physiology, bioengineering or biomechanical engineering. College experience in a biomechanics lab or a lab that involved data collection on human subjects. Experience working with 3D Motion Capture equipment. Experience collecting physiological data using a metabolic cart. Experience using Matlab. Experience collecting EMG data a plus. Experience using machine shop equipment a plus. Experience with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating effective listening through concise, clear verbal and written communication. Keen attention to detail in planning, organization and execution of tasks. Technical background and mindset. Effective time management skills. Demonstration of innovation and initiative always looking to improve products and processes while also displaying a willingness to dive into the details and help out where necessary. Embraces and lives the Brooks values! Willing to commit to a 6 month assignment. Must be available to work at least 30 hours per week.
