    ABOUT THE ROLE:

     

    Capital One is looking for the head of the Canada PR function who will lead sophisticated public relations programs designed to  communicate key initiatives to customers, media, communities, community advocacy groups and other stakeholders. In this role, you will lead consumer-facing, multi-dimensional and integrated communications campaigns across channels to raise awareness, enhance perception and drive adoption of Capital One products and services, while also communicating about our mission. You will also proactively identify, assess and mitigate issues and risks impacting the company’s reputation with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. You will serve as a strategic counselor to business leaders and will lead a PR team based in Toronto. 

    The right candidate should demonstrate excellent judgment, communication skills, growth mindset, and have an insider understanding of the Canadian media landscape.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lead ongoing, insights-based and results-focused PR programming to deepen awareness of the Capital One brand, offerings and community impact in Canada, while delivering on bold business goals. Thoughtfully determine when to incorporate earned media, influencer relations, experiential, sponsorships and content components into programming. 

    • Develop an intentional thought leadership strategy to reinforce our mission, and foster advocacy on our behalf that enhances awareness, trust and credibility.

    • Position internal thought leaders in relevant conversations that drive our story. 

    • Establish and maintain relationships with key media outlets and influencers to further impactful storytelling

    • Play a lead role in the company’s efforts to anticipate, identify and address potential threats to reputation health.

    • Leverage a broad-based knowledge of the external environment and key stakeholders (media, customers, activists, regulators, policymakers, community and industry influencers) to provide communications advice and counsel to enhance and protect corporate reputation

    • Develop and maintain deep fluency and expertise in relevant external trends impacting the business and its peers. 

    • Identify, build and maintain effective relationships with partners across the enterprise, including members of the brand marketing, government relations, legal and human resources teams. 

    • Manage agency partners and large-scale budgets.

     

     

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

    • Strong executive presence with the ability to lead tough conversations, navigate complex organizations and influence decision making

    • Be bold in approach and creative execution

    • Innovative thinker with a curious mind and an appetite for exploring the "gray space" between marketing and communications to tell impactful stories 

    • Expert knowledge in the latest communications channels and how to best leverage for communications programs as part of the overall strategy

     

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's Degree or military experience

    • At least 7 years of Communications, Marketing, Public Relations experience or a combination

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Masters Degree in Business, Mass Communications, Marketing/Public Relations, Journalism

    • 10+ years of experience in developing and implementing business communication and organizational change management strategies, plans and deliverables

    • 5+ years of experience in creating and executing strategic and creative communication campaigns for organizations

    • Background in public affairs and/or efforts to protect reputation health through integrated communications strategies

    • Bilingual (English and French) capabilities - verbal and written
