CDFI Lending Manager, Community Impact & Investment

THE FINANCIAL INCLUSION TEAM LENDING MANAGER WILL PLAY A KEY ROLE IN CAPITAL ONE’S COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FINANCIAL INSTITUTION (CDFI) PROGRAM.  AS A LENDING MANAGER, YOU WILL SUPPORT THE FULL SPECTRUM OF ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH A WELL-MANAGED, HIGH IMPACT PROGRAM. SPECIFICALLY, YOU WILL APPLY YOUR FINANCIAL, ANALYTICAL, PROJECT MANAGEMENT, AND RESEARCH SKILLS TO IDENTIFY, DILIGENCE, ONBOARD, AND MANAGE LENDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH LEADING CDFIS ACROSS CAPITAL ONE’S FOOTPRINT. THE LENDING MANAGER WILL SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY IMPACT AND INVESTMENT AND LARGER EXTERNAL AFFAIRS TEAM IN ADVANCING CAPITAL ONE’S SOCIOECONOMIC MOBILITY OBJECTIVES, INCLUDING RACIAL EQUITY. 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

• PRE-QUALIFY AND STRUCTURE LOAN PACKAGES (RENEWALS AND NEW ORIGINATIONS) FOR UNDERWRITING AND APPROVAL, AND PRESENT FACILITIES TO UNDERWRITERS 

• WORK WITH COMMUNITY FINANCE ASSET MANAGERS TO TRACK LOANS FROM SUBMISSION TO CLOSING AND FUNDING

• COLLABORATE WITH SMALL BUSINESS BANKING ASSET MANAGEMENT TO OVERSEE AND COMPLETE ANNUAL RELATIONSHIP ASSESSMENTS FOR LOAN PORTFOLIO 

• SUPPORT BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT BY RESEARCHING CDFI NEEDS IN CAPITAL ONE MARKETS, USING BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL SOURCES AND TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR NEW ORIGINATIONS

• INNOVATE ON DATA COLLECTION MECHANISMS WITH GOALS OF REACHING BORROWERS TO REPORT ON THE IMPACT OF CDFI FINANCING IN AN EFFICIENT, USER-FRIENDLY INTERACTION

• COORDINATE WITH COMMUNITY IMPACT & INVESTMENT (CII) MARKET LEADS AND GRANT MANAGERS WHO OVERSEE PHILANTHROPIC RELATIONSHIPS WITH BORROWERS TO DEVELOP DEEPER, MULTI-FACETED RELATIONSHIPS 

• ANALYZE DATA ON USES OF LOAN PROCEEDS AND DOCUMENT COMMUNITY IMPACT OF INVESTMENTS, AND HELP CRAFT STORIES THAT ILLUSTRATE SOCIOECONOMIC MOBILITY OUTCOMES

• CONDUCT ONGOING RESEARCH AND TRACK TRENDS IN CDFI INDUSTRY, PEER INSTITUTIONS, AND NONPROFIT ADVOCATES TO INFORM STRATEGY AND PROGRAM DESIGN

CANDIDATE QUALITIES:

• UNDERWRITING EXPERIENCE, ESPECIALLY AT ENTITY OR PROJECT LEVEL FOR CDFIS OR NONPROFIT BORROWERS 

• EXCEPTIONAL ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND A PROVEN TRACK RECORD OF PROBLEM SOLVING BASED ON ANALYTICS

• KNOWLEDGE OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT (E.G. AFFORDABLE HOUSING, SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT) LENDING, THE COMMUNITY REINVESTMENT ACT, AND CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY 

• ABILITY TO EXERCISE STRONG JUDGMENT WITHIN NARROW TIME-FRAMES

• STRONG TEAM PLAYER WITH GOOD CRITICAL THINKING, ORGANIZATION AND PLANNING SKILLS

• ABILITY TO MANAGE AND COMPLETE MULTIPLE PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS CONCURRENTLY

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• BACHELOR’S DEGREE OR MILITARY EXPERIENCE

• AT LEAST TWO YEARS OF UNDERWRITING, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT, NONPROFIT, OR GOVERNMENT AGENCY EXPERIENCE IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT OR CAPITAL PROGRAMS

• AT LEAST TWO YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH SPREADSHEETS AND CREATING PRESENTATIONS USING G SUITE OR SIMILAR TOOLS

• AT LEAST TWO YEARS OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• EXCELLENT INTERPERSONAL, COMMUNICATION AND TEAMWORK SKILLS

• KNOWLEDGE OF AND EXPERIENCE WITH CDFIS 

• KNOWLEDGE OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT AND/OR SMALL BUSINESS LENDING, 

• AVAILABLE SAMPLE OF CANDIDATE’S ANALYTIC AND WRITING SKILLS

• DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY AND WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF A TEAM

• DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO MOTIVATE OTHERS TO ACHIEVE CLIENT AND DEAL TEAM GOALS.

• DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO IDENTIFY OBSTACLES AND QUICKLY CREATE SOLUTIONS

• MBA OR ADVANCED DEGREE A PLUS
