    Job Description

    The Wholesale Underwriting Manager will be responsible for ensuring all loans are underwritten in accordance with Company and Investor guidelines following company’s policies and procedures. Makes sound underwriting decisions and ensures that all decisions meet legal and policy requirements. Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures and all state and federal regulations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for ensuring all decisions are made with 100% compliance with Company and Investor guidelines and follow the company’s policies and procedures.
    • Works with senior management to establish department goals and objectives.
    • Ensure proper workload balancing to achieve daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual goals.
    • Performs analysis of production reports and provides updates to senior management on turn-times and quality within department.
    • Provide the strategic direction outline for the department on an on-going basis.
    • Ensure that all underwriters are properly trained, and remain up to date on all the company’s policies, procedures and products as well as Investor guidelines.
    • Track trends and audit findings to identify areas for improvement and updates to policies and procedures.
    • Monitors performance of the department’s quality of work, technical abilities, and risk analysis.
    • Randomly reviews files for quality, provides 2nd signatures for files outside of authorities, as needed.
    • Provide on-going updates on underwriting trends and potentially quality issues as identified.
    • Ultimately responsible for the development, accuracy and completeness of underwriting guidelines and training materials.
    • Stays abreast of changes within industry and how they affect company guidelines, underwriting workflow, policies and procedures.
    • Continually work with staff and Supervisors to improve performance, cost to originate, and customer service within and outside of the department.
    • Responsible to ensure all responses to post funding audits, investor reviews and various quality control reports are completed on-time and in compliance.
    • Establishes corrective action plans to eliminate and prevent reoccurring findings.
    • Recruits and interviews for open underwriting positions within department.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.
    • Ability to understand opposing points of view on highly complex issues and to negotiate and integrate difference viewpoints
    • Ability to interact with Senior Management as an advisor on projects, and to act as the company’s principal spokesperson in area of expertise.
    • Ability to make decisions that have significant impact on the department’s credibility, operations, and services.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize work schedules of others on short-term basis.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize work schedules of others on long-term basis.
    • Ability to compute, analyze, and interpret complex statistical data and/or to develop forecasts and computer models.
    • Ability to make informal presentations, inside and/or outside the organization; speaking before groups.
    • Strong negotiation skills.
    • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
    • Experience working in a paperless environment preferred.

     

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE & LICENSES:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
    • Current Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) License from NMLS required in applicable state jurisdictions
    • FHA Direct Endorsement license required.
    • Eight (8) years of experience as an Underwriter with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
