Licenses or Certifications: None Notes to Applicants The Payroll Technician, under general supervision, is the team member in the Payroll Division that will greet all customers when they arrive in the Payroll Office. This position will also answer the phone and help customers with their payroll questions. Other related duties may be assigned. Performs front desk duties for the payroll office, including greet walk-in customers, answer phone calls, and distribute payroll mail and faxes. Enters employee information into the payroll system for withholding, payroll deductions, address changes and direct deposit. Maintains security and confidentiality by following internal control policies and procedures. Secures confidential information and maintains historical records and files. Serves as back-up to Payroll Specialists. Researches and analyzes information as requested or needed; responds to requests for information reprints. Writes and creates memos and reports as requested or needed. Responsibilities - Supervision and/or Leadership Exercised: None Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Knowledge of good customer relations practices. Knowledge of basic office and/or clerical procedures and equipment. Knowledge of business English and business correspondence sufficient to compose and prepare letters, reports, etc. Knowledge of data entry and retrieval methods. Knowledge of data base procedures, capabilities and limitations. Skill in operating a computer and using standard business software. Skill in understanding and following verbal and written instructions. Ability to establish work priorities to ensure completion of job tasks within a specified time frame. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
