Notes to Applicants The Medical Technologist II performs pre-analytical laboratory procedures for identification of STDs. This includes but not limited to phlebotomy, processing of specimen, testing of specimen and reporting test results for the CD Unit. The laboratory staff will maintain records of quality control, preventative maintenance, CQJ documentation, audit or infection control practices and have an ongoing written quality improvement program. Advises on QA issues related to outreach screening activities. Will comply with safety practices and proper use of tools and equipment. Perform clinical lab tests in some or all of the following areas following established procedures: chemistry, microbiology, hematology, blood typing and matching. Perform tests including blood counts and differential, blood chemistry stet, therapeutic drug monitoring, urinalysis stet, blood coagulation, toxicology stet, inoculating media and gram stain readings etc. Perform quality checks on tests and instruments. Break down instruments for repairs and maintenance. Record test results. Communicate with patients, doctors, nurses and other health care workers. Collect blood specimens from patients. Assist in evaluating new methods and procedures and in writing new procedures for newly implemented tests. Skill in working quickly and effectively and in setting priorities. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with health care staff, physicians, patients and the general public.
