The members of the Management Board and all employees are required to adhere to these standards to protect AFEX and its reputation from being misused for money laundering and/or terrorist financing or other illegal purposes.

    The Compliance department, under the Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) umbrella function, ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and with Company policies by establishing risk-based policies and procedures.

    We are currently hiring for a Compliance Analyst to join our Compliance Department based in our Head Office based in Los Angeles.

    Role:

    The Compliance Analyst (CA) supports AFEX’s Compliance Program to ensure that all AFEX’s regulatory requirements are met. A successful CA reviews and assesses customer AML risk at the initial onboarding of new customers and throughout the customer relationship. The CA supports AFEX’s Know Your Customer (KYC) policies surrounding account onboarding, transaction monitoring, ongoing reviews, sanctions screening, suspicious account activity identification and regulatory reports preparation and submission.

    The CA will successfully completed time sensitive duties while demonstrating the ability to adapt to shifting business needs and will develop a solid understanding of the legal and compliance policies of AFEX.

    The CA works with minimum supervision and demonstrates capability to monitor, research, analyze, and address all essential compliance activities for all AFEX client relationships, exercising good judgment in identifying issues and driving resolutions.

    Responsibilities:

    • Investigate and document incidents of potential money laundering, fraud, and terrorist financing
    • Review and action referrals from the internal employees
    • Review and validate customer due diligence and enhanced due diligence (CDD/EDD) data obtained at account onboarding. Conduct periodic updates to customer profiles. Approve account applications and periodic updates.
    • Clearly document and support judgments, decisions and rationale.
    • Communicate with customers and business team members to verify specific or obtain additional data.
    • Perform customer risk assessments; assess and analyze research results independently, and conduct complex data analysis applying background knowledge and experience.
    • Ensure that customer information is correctly recorded in client relationship management system and in accordance with department standards.
    • Review transactions subject to any OFAC/sanctions-related screening.
    • Conduct ongoing EDD account reviews as per the schedule set by the Compliance Manager.
    • As warranted, preparation, and filing, of regulatory reports (SARs, STRs, SMRs, etc…) within regulatory guidelines.
    • Assist in coordination and preparedness for independent review, agency and state exams.
    • Maintain awareness of compliance issues as they arise.
    • Execute directives and investigate ad-hoc issues from the Compliance Manager.
    • Maintain current knowledge of relevant regulatory and corporate governance standards.
    • Share department responsibilities with other team members in an equitable manner.
    • Operating hours will periodically change with Start times varying from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time

    Qualification and Skills:

    • Strong investigative skills including familiarity with open source research tools
    • Ability to conduct transaction analysis across complex scenarios
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Attention to detail and the ability to work in a time-sensitive, deadline-driven environment
    • Familiarity with laws applicable to money laundering, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), The USA PATRIOT Act, OFAC, FinCEN requirements, and SAR requirements or equivalent in regions where AFEX operates
    • Able to multitask and adapt to changing priorities and effective prioritize workflow to meet critical deadlines.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills including ability to problem solve.
    • Self-starter with strong ability to work independently.
    • BS/BA degree or equivalent practical experience
    • Proficiency in a foreign language is a plus.
