    LOCATION:

    U.S. Army Garrison Kwajalein Atoll (USAG-KA) is located in the Kwajalein Atoll, Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) approximately 2,136 nautical miles west-southwest of Honolulu, Hawaii.  Kwajalein Atoll is a crescent loop of coral islands whose attendant reef encloses an area of 1,100 square miles one of the world's largest lagoons.  The USAG-KA supports more than 1,400 residents, who are comprised of military personnel, Army civilians, contractor employees, and family members. These residents live on the islands of Kwajalein and Roi-Namur.

     

    SCOPE:

     

    The Pharmacist will be responsible for providing safe and efficient methods for coordination of established pharmacy policy concerning drug patient care and provides clinical drug information to meet the needs of the patient, nurse and physician.  Under the supervision of the Hospital Administrator, the Pharmacist will advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects of medications.

     

     

    **This position is notional and contingent upon contract award. **

     

    All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which CHSi is recognized.

     



    Required Skills

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Must have received a BS or Pharm D from a school of pharmacy approved by a state board of pharmacy or accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).
    • Must have an active, unrestricted state license to practice as a Pharmacist.
    • Must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Pharmacist, experience in both a hospital and ambulatory pharmacy and knowledge and expertise in both outpatient and inpatient drug therapies.
    • Must have and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
    • Proficient in speaking, writing and reading English.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    Perform and/or provide direction and support for the following services:

    • Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability.
    • Fills prescriptions, verifying instructions from physicians on the proper amounts of medication to be given ensuring timely delivery
    • Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
    • Maintain records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, control records for radioactive nuclei, or registries of poisons, narcotics, or controlled drugs.
    • Plan, implement, or maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, or labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
    • Assess the identity, strength, or purity of medications.
    • Collaborate with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, or evaluate the quality or effectiveness of drugs or drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications or characteristics.
    • Order and purchase pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies, or drugs, maintaining stock and storing and handling it properly.
    • Analyze prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions.
    • Compound and dispense medications as prescribed by doctors and dentists, by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, or oversee these activities.
    • Checks for patient drug contraindications. Responsible for verifying dosage regimen for accuracy and specified amount to be within the standard dosing range and frequency.
    • Maintains adequate stock levels of medications that are high use (utilization based) to include key medications for unforeseen events such as outbreaks. (Influenza as an example).
    • Oversees the work of pharmacy staff.
    • Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements
    • Comply with all applicable CHSi standards and guidelines.
    • Participate and advise in Mass Casualty Exercises/Events.
    • All Health Care Providers (HCPs) will document care delivered and follow up care required.
    • All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which CHSi is recognized.
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

     

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

     

    • Requires the ability to be granted a Secret Clearance.
    • Must have a valid US Passport
    • Performs duties in a safe manner. Follows the corporate safety policy.
    • Participates in and supports safety meetings, training and goals.
    • Ensures safe operating conditions within area of responsibility.
    • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

     

    • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
    • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
    • May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.
    • Good eye/hand coordination required
