    Overview

    The Power Finance Group within the First Citizens Bank’s Energy Business lends money to finance large scale US renewable energy projects such as solar, wind, and battery storage, along with conventional gas power projects. The Power Group has arranged over $1 billion in debt financing in 2025 and consistently ranks among the top banks in leading financings for US power and renewables projects. In 2020, it was named Renewable Energy Lead Arranger of the year by Power Finance & Risk, a top publication covering the energy project finance industry. In 2025, it won two Gold Stevie awards for “Financing the Battery Storage Boom - Achievement in Management” and “Company of the Year - Banking - Large”.

    The group is hiring a Corporate Banking Intern - Summer Analyst to support their financial analysis efforts. The summer internship program is designed to provide an opportunity for students to apply classroom knowledge in a corporate environment while delivering tangible value to the organization, as well as gaining valuable work experience. Interns will be assigned to live transactions and will be exposed to leading industry players, lenders, and investors, gaining insight into transaction processes and deal execution.

    Responsibilities

    • Work as part of a Deal Team on live transactions, engaged in many aspects of credit underwriting and portfolio management, financial analysis, credit memo preparation
    • Financial modeling in excel of solar, wind, gas and battery storage projects
    • Due diligence of power projects including company and industry analysis, reviewing engineering, market, insurance and transmission studies
    • A capstone project and presentation designed to improve a specific process or solve a problem that will be presented at the close of the internship
    • Preparation of internal credit memorandum
    • Preparation of marketing materials for potential clients and other lenders
    • Participate in internal credit approval meetings and client/customer calls, as appropriate.
    • Attend professional development and informational sessions, networking and community service events

    Internship dates: 5/27/2026 - 7/31/2026

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience
    • Currently enrolled at an accredited collegiate institution (during the time of the summer program
    • Ability to work 40 hours per week during the duration of the program
    • 3.0 GPA or higher

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 3 years of college experience (rising senior)
    • Major in a quantitative field including engineering, finance, accounting or economics
    • Strong verbal and written communications skills
    • Interest in renewable energy

    The base pay for this position is generally between $22.44/hr and $26.40/hr. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
