    Overview

    This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of a company office.

    First Citizens Bank offers an exciting summer internship program that provides development opportunities and hands on work experience while creating a talent pipeline for the Bank.     Within Finance, our Regulatory Reporting Team plays a critical role in ensuring that the Bank meets all reporting obligations to U.S. regulators. The Regulatory Reporting Intern will join a team of approximately 60 finance professionals located across the U.S. and India who are responsible for the preparation, analysis, and timely submission of the Bank’s regulatory filings. This role offers hands-on experience in the intersection of financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and data analytics, providing a valuable introduction to the inner workings of a large financial institution’s control environment.

    You will collaborate with a management team located in Raleigh, NC to gain an exposure to the reports filed with Federal Reserve Board (FRB), the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and state regulators. The internship is designed to develop both technical and analytical skills, while building a solid understanding of the regulatory framework that governs large U.S. banks.

    Responsibilities

    In this role, you will:

    • Assist with the preparation, review, and validation of selected regulatory reports and supporting schedules.

    • Support the documentation and control process that ensure the accuracy and completeness of submissions.

    • Participate in process improvement initiatives such as automation, data-quality enhancements, and reporting efficiency projects.

    • Learn how to interpret and apply relevant regulatory instructions and accounting guidance (e.g., FR Y-9C, Call Report, etc.).

    • Collaboration - Works with department peers and leadership in other enterprise functions to ensure reported data and data aggregations align with regulatory requirements. Builds relationships with Financial, business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), analysts, and developers to gather information and to ensure requirements are captured and solutions are appropriately implemented to address any business needs.

    • Be part of a dynamic team with interesting projects.

    • Accountabilities can and may include areas such as research, analytics, projects, strategy, process review and improvement, as well as technology enhancements and support.

    • Attend professional development sessions, informational sessions, networking and community service events.

    • Have a dedicated manager and program manager to help you navigate the bank and the internship program.

    • Be assigned a project, designed to improve a specific process or solve a problem that you will present at the close of the internship.

    • Prepare a wrap-up presentation to be shared with the division leader and other key stakeholders in the company to outline your accomplishments and experience during the internship

    Internship dates: 5/27/2026 - 7/31/2026

    Qualifications

    Required qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience

    • Currently enrolled at an accredited collegiate institution (during the time of the summer program)

    • Ability to work 40 hours per week during the duration of the program

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Accounting, Finance, Management Information Systems (MIS), Data Analytics / Data Science, or Computer Science background

    • Rising Juniors and Seniors who are interested in a future with the Bank

    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with large datasets, Exposure to SQL or similar tools is a plus.

    • 3.0 minimum GPA

    • Strong desire to learn and grow

    • Possess a positive attitude, naturally curious and enjoys collaborating with others

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills

    • Critical thinking skills

    • Ability to multitask

    • Ability to adapt and adjust priorities based on business needs

    • Ability to take direction and absorb information quickly
