  • Responsibilities

    CME Group’s Corporate Strategy & Business Development department is at the forefront of steering the corporation's strategic trajectory with a keen focus on organic and inorganic growth initiatives. This team works closely with senior leadership across all departments (e.g. Sales, Business Line Management, Technology, Clearing, Legal, Research & Development, FP&A, etc.) to identify short- and long-term growth opportunities, as well as solve critical business challenges.

    The intern in this role will assist in the development of short- and long-term strategies for various business areas within the organization by researching, analyzing, and compiling qualitative and quantitative information in a concise and high-quality manner for presentations and discussions with senior management and business leaders.

    The Corporate Strategy & Business Development Intern will be expected to take initiative, work independently, and participate in cross-functional teams to produce high-quality work.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist in researching multiple topics for strategic initiatives: Support market research, consolidate findings, and work with senior team members to propose recommendations that shape company and product strategy through presentations and detailed analyses.

    • Investigate and provide analyses of competitors, partners, business models, market sizing, and industry trends.

    • Assist in deriving strategic conclusions and recommendations by synthesizing qualitative and quantitative information.

    • Assist in other ad hoc projects, including exploratory landscape and market analyses, strategic sourcing pipeline, and competitor profile benchmarking.

    • Develop understanding of key products, services and business functions within CME Group.

    Skills / Software Requirements:

    • Strong analytical skills essential; financial modeling experience helpful but not required.

    • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or Google Workspace skills required.

    • Familiarity with S&P Capital IQ and/or Bloomberg terminal.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Self-starter with the ability to work/collaborate effectively within a team.

    • Motivated to learn more about, and potentially pursue a career in, the financial services industry.

    • Relevant coursework (e.g., finance, strategy, data analysis) is a plus.

    Education:

    • Minimum GPA of 3.0

    • Interested applicants across academic disciplines with strong analytical skills and an interest in exploring finance are encouraged to apply. Preferred majors: Finance, Business, Math, International Relations, Economics, Data Science (with a business focus).

    Location and Hours:

    • Internship is local to Chicago, IL.

    • Up to 40 hours per week with a flexible work schedule.

    CME Group is committed to offering a competitive pay package for our employee interns. The pay range typically applicable to our intern roles is $21.68--$36.10. Actual pay offered will be dependent on a wide array of factors including but not limited to: relevant experience, skills, education, location of the internship, and the internship area of focus.
