Position Duties The Department of Revenue is seeking highly motivated individuals who are interested in a professional career serving as an Auditor/Examiner. This position will be based out of the Atlanta Regional Office. The Auditor examines and analyzes accounting records to determine the financial condition or compliance with tax code of an assigned organization or program. Prepares financial reports concerning operating procedures. Some in-state travel and occasional overnight out-of-state travel may be required. Other duties include corresponding with taxpayers, their representatives, banking institutions, and court offices by either mail, phone, or in person. Duties require high levels of computer research skills, customer service skills, analytical skills, and independent judgment. Position Status: Unclassified Pay Grade: I Expected Starting Salary : $35,000 - $37,000 Salaries for Current State Employees will be in accordance with State Personnel Board Rules 478-1-.12 (Salary) 478-1-.15 (Changes to Employment Status) Minimum Entry Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field from an accredited college or university OR Three years of experience in a related area. Position Specific Qualifications: In addition to meeting the minimum entry qualifications stated below, candidates must have a Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Accounting, or a closely-related field, including a minimum of 4 accounting classes (12 hours). Applicants must have passed the Tax Specialist Test with a score of 70 or more and must provide a list of any accounting classes in the resume. Qualified candidates will be contacted by the Office of Human Resources about the Tax Specialist Test. Note: Only applicants that meet the above stated position specific qualifications will be evaluated for an interview of their behavioral/technical competencies. Essential Qualifications: * Customer Service * Accountability * Judgment and Decision Making * Teamwork and Cooperation * Results Orientation * Ability to Multitask * Written communication skills * The ability to meet the terms and conditions of employment with the Audits Division, including the ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. * Travel is required in-state and some overnight travel out-of-state * A score of 70 or higher on the Tax Specialist Test. * Proficient in Microsoft Excel * A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting OR Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or closely-related field with 4 classes/12 hours of accounting classes or Master's degree in another business-related field with 4 classes/12 hours of accounting classes - must be listed on resume Preferred Criteria: * Good knowledge of accounting and taxation practices * One year of tax auditing experience in various tax fields * One year of experience in general accounting work * One year of tax preparation experience Important Due to the large volume of applications received by this office, only applicants selected for interview will be notified for final applicant selection.
