  • Responsibilities

    Work with CM Group management and others in the Accounting and Finance Department to prepare company financial statements and reports in any one or more of the following areas: tax, regulatory compliance, treasury, investments, expense analysis/budgeting or other operational accounting areas.

     

    The current opening will be mainly focused on Tax and Regulatory Compliance.

     

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

         I. Tax a) Prepare premium tax returns and make annual and installment payments b) Prepare corporate income tax returns for select states c) Prepare municipal tax filings on a quarterly/annual d) Prepare federal 1099 filings

     

         II. Regulatory Compliance

    a) Prepare data request calls for insurance departments, statistical services, rating bureaus, residual market pools, etc. b) Pay surcharges and recoupments and reconcile the associated general ledger accounts c) Prepare annual regulatory filings to the state insurance departments d) Assist with preparation of schedules as needed for statutory annual statement

     

         III. Operational

    a) Prepare and maintain company equipment records and prepare equipment depreciation reports using FAS software b) Prepare journal vouchers as assigned c) Perform account reconciliations as assigned d) Assist in transactions involving assumed/ceded reinsurance e) Assist in preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements

     

         IV. Miscellaneous a) Document procedures as necessary for the accounting procedure manual b) Assist with departmental projects

     

     

    Additional responsibilities for the Senior Accountant Level. 

    Required Skills

    STAFF ACCOUNTANT

    • Ability to sit for CPA exam is required.
    • Ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines.
    • Analytical thinking skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internal and external.
    • Sound judgment and effective decision making skills.

     

    SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

    • CPA and/or CMA certification required. May consider significant accounting/finance experience within the property/casualty industry in lieu of a certification.
    • Evidence of ability to effectively organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines or requirements. 
    • Strong Analytical Skills
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels.
    • Sound judgement and effective decision-making skills.

     

    Required Experience

    STAFF ACCOUNTANT

    • Prior statutory accounting experience preferred.
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.

     

    SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

    • Minimum of three years statutory accounting experience required, preferably in the insurance industry.
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.
